Aldenham Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets

Match report Aldenham humbled at Leverstock Green CC cricket week.

Levy Green brush Aldenham aside on the final day of their annual cricket festival having been on the lash for 5 days straight.

The parish dwelling visitors were confident at the break, whilst enjoying freshly baked scones and warm sausage rolls from the delightful spread. A very respectable 239-7 on the board from their allotted 35 overs. The highlight was fine knock from Basil Letts(90), the veteran batsman and lucy enthusiast rolled back the years at his favorite ground, nearly running K.Barot (43*) into an early grave leaving the former No.4 on his knees and calling for water and oxygen after approximately 4 overs at the crease. Overrated fodder clubber, record leading run scorer, 8 time player of the season, most decorated captain and satirical cricket reporter was bowled for not many by a full toss.

In reply, once the opening batsmen learned that the headline act for the festival were world famous Scam 69, they decided a quick game would certainly be a good game. To say they took advantage of the powerplay would be a horrific understatement. Rajy baby’s first over of the innings was dispatched for 17 and that was just the warm up as relentless barrage of gentle half volleys were offered up on a platter. By the time the 7 overs of powerplay was over, so was the contest.
A disgruntled Letts asked Chadel if he knew why the pink ball had turned into a dogs chew toy after his 3 overs?
Temporary self selected skipper Barot was scratching his head wondering how to save the game in between mouthfuls of corner shop chewing stink. Unsurprisingly, he turned to his favorite player, Uncle K. This did not go well as the village was not big enough to contain the 6s raining down across the Dacorum borough.
Aldenham suffered the humiliation of 2 batsman retirements as the Hemel club wanted to make sure all their team mates got a piece of the average boosting action on a flat deck against the toothless attack. 8 bowlers used, all poor in front of a big crowd. We probably needed in excess of 400.

In typical Aldenham fashion, they did not let something insignificant like cricket get in the way of them having a good time. The jugs were flowing in the evening sun. The pizza van was a big hit with the ACC athletes and Scam 69 rocked the entire village like only Scam can.

The hosts were magnificent on and off the pitch and it is a great privilege to be invited and included. Lets hope they enjoy an easy touch on day 5 so we can do it all again next year!
