Aldenham Cricket Club v London Theatres CC on Sun 11 Aug 2024 at 13.00
Aldenham Cricket Club Lost by 193 runs

Match report Tim “Levers” Hale led an ACC side against what was an eye-catching team name in London Theatre. A touring side that features a captain who plies his trade as the Phantom in the Phantom of the Opera amongst other West End stars and production staff.

It certainly was a dramatic opening as Aldenham bowled first and Sheikh “the Wolf” bowled a Wicked first delivery of the day to send their opening batter for an early stage exit. A golden duck rather than a golden Globe for this aspiring star. Another two speedy wickets one or two complacent whispers amongst the group but Mama Mia, they were soon humbled. Batter 3 and 4 were slowed only by some sticky outfield as they slapped their way to a tonne and 94 respectively.
Eventually one fell on 100 and the other soon after. Wickets then began to tick, but even though the run rate slowed, the batting side were going at more than 7 an over. Some nice catches, Kunal clinching 2 and Sheikh finishing with 4 tidy dismissals, and the curtain fell on a strong opposition innings.
313 looked a tough act to follow- though the oppo did express some concerns over our skipper’s vocal claims of a 350 par.

Quick lunch featuring nothing of note, and we got the show on the road.
Out stepped the ACC opening batters AJ and Deepak-a pair with very little time in the limelight in the last few seasons but eager to make their mark..
However, it was to be a bleak overture, Deepak lasting one more ball than the oppo opener and dismissed on the 2nd. In came the Skipper Tim Hale to take a leading role …. Stage exit lefty. The proclaimed nicest man at Aldenham sent both bat and helmet flying across the dressing room.
Some strong fielding from the London Theatre team kept the run rate well behind. AJ followed shortly after on 7, Dush on 9. Just as it seemed the show would be a flop, Pamar and Perry provided some credibility to the chase with a well executed 32 and 38 respectively. However there was no Showstopper to rescue the day.
And then Injury to insult. Ally had entertained the team during a hot day in the field with some heated exchanges with the opposition earlier in the day, but after a very brief spell he succumbed to injury and was forced to retire.
Hamza got into his 20s and Sheikhy - having stole the show and secured the MOM with the ball- chipped the ball straight to the fielder and claimed the 3rd golden duck of the day. ACC fell soon after for just 120 all out.
A disappointing afternoon for Aldenham heroes, but I very credible opposition we would love to welcome back next year to put up a better fight.
