Aldenham Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets

Match report Match Report – Vs – Harrovians CC
Pre-Game: With a new skipper on debut duties caretaking in absence of the regular steward; such was the dedication that with 5 soldiers alongside all duties and jobs; chairs, flags, screen, scoreboard, pitch markings anything you name it and it was completed by 1210pm – meet time was 1215pm. Well done, Dush. However, the Aldenham signature lastminute.com had to happen. With everyone chilling, chatting and faffing around at 1238pm realisation struck that there was no milk for the tea toddlers. SOS to Maj and a drive to Asda only 3 mins otherwise but due to road works 21 mins and Milk is available only 3 balls into the first innings. Not bad.

1st innings: Stand in Skipper Dush won the and perhaps learning the tricks of the trade on Sunday man management and duly elected to field first. If anyone needed a reminder that Itty is Sunday Skipp – this was one. The boys quickly took field and so did the oppo batters; the team playing us first time. Couple were so early helped us with putting the flags too. Wonderful. Rajji and Shiekhy got the proceedings going with the opener making a brisk start loving the point and backward point to third man region. Particularly got to Raj’s nerves and field was moved with deep point, deep backward point then gully and more, somehow the opener kept finding the fence, either above or between the fielders. Finally, Raj got the other batter nicked off, who wasn’t able to survive the birthday boy brunt. Ally came into bowl 1st change and picked off the other opener exactly in the area he loved to play, but placing Pavan exactly at a spot between point and backward point – not sure what that’s called but Ally said move two steps to the left and the ball went into Pavan’s hand easy with a slight hop – safe hands. Now two down Aldenham felt good. Hamza 2nd change started with some warm ups of short stuff but eventually like most rubbish balls get you a wicket got one of a short delivery wide outside off stump with 6 men around the park waiting for a catch but it was birthday boy again on the scoreboard running in 20 yards off the deep cover fence to take a fine grab. Three down and stand in skipper got the Chaiwalla brothers on in tandem either side of the drinks break. The Senior Chaiwalla , manufactured in Mumbai, fostered in Middle East and now a Product of Aldenham bowled a maiden for the ages that included two drives missing the edge one of the front and back foot each, an LBW appeal turned down, an inside edge, a quick bouncer played to mid-wicket and finally a stunning diving caught and bowled foxing the batter off a slower delivery played as early as the February Sun. Zubair was in the mood and took another before coming back at the end of the innings to take two more of successive balls to finish off the tail. A four-wicket haul. Some good steady batting from the oppo line up though right up to No. 8 got the opposition to 180.

2nd innings: Dush and Maj opened the batting with the later having no clue where the next run is coming from this season decided to get all 181 of the first over itself. Not paying heed to the advice of the club legend #No4 of staying at the wicket. Result – caught at point of an airy drive for 1. Dush though did try to stay at the wicket taking responsibility etc but the result there was also the same – clean bowled of an inducker for 1. This got Pavan and Perry together who in no time stitched a 50+ stand, however, such was Pavan’s authority it reminded of Jayasurya Kalu partnership of 70 where in Kalu scored a 0 – Perry managed a 10 with couple of hits to the fence but Pavan scored everything else and faced everything else too as Perry faced his first ball after 4 overs since reaching the crease. Finally, a loopy offspinner with pace of a snail took the Edge and that was enough to curse the batting position for good measure. This got the birthday boy to the crease who was determined to make it count on his big day. However, the afternoon belonged to Pavan, who played an innings of such precision and authority as well as tempo that in no time the 100 was raised off just the 15th over. 12 hits to the fence and 2 maximums for a fantastic 100 in a chase coming in to bat at no. 3, in the first over. Duly retired giving a chance to others; Khurram and Raj ensured the last 23 runs were knocked off without much fuss. Another great Sunday win.

Report Card – out of 10

Maj – 01
For helping the team meet the compliance purposes of fielding an eleven. That’s been his only contribution this season anyway. And the milk of course.

Dush – 08
For coming early, getting things in place, ensuring a good Sunday outing for all. Two points deducted for a dropped catch that never made it to the book.

Pavan – 10
Would give 11 if possible. A stunning ton deserving of all the appreciation and applause. A masterclass.

Perry – 09
Excellent wicket keeping doing the caretaking of one of many things we were love Itty for, great banter on field, overall positivity that his presence brings always. One point missed due to the ball that should have gone to the trees got his wicket.

Raj – 10
Birthday – so nothing less will do. My MOM for a catch, a wicket and a 40 not out in a chase ensuring no signature Aldenham collapse and an 80+ partnership with the centurion.

Khurram – 07
No wickets but full marks for sincerity and a catch after dropping one and remaining not out.

Ally – 09
One mark short for letting one go between him and leg umpire to the boundary. Got the main wicket when the chips were down. Positivity always top notch along with the fake aggression that only we know, not the oppo.

Zubair – 10
Great spell with no respite to the opposition. The maiden was worth a streaming service.

Jnyan – 10
A wicket of a lovely leg break that deceived the batter in flight and popped a catch at cover. Also, being the ACC hero turning up when one member originally selected had to excuse for the day.

Hamza – 08
Two marks removed for short bowling and always trying to do six things in one ball instead doing one in one ball.

Shiekhy – 10
A stunning spell with express pace, did not get a wicket but deserved 3 or 4. Perry was collecting chest height standing back. 6 overs for just 10 runs with three maidens.

A Sunday Funday at ACC – Cricket the winner – only two Sunday losses this year remains intact.
