Match report Match report Fulmer 19th May 2024

ACC win by 3 wickets

On a glorious May afternoon, having already worked up a sweat prepping the ground ready for our Sunday friendly against Fulmer, skipper Itty won the toss and elected to bowl.

The 10 over opening bowling partnership between Sheikh and Adam Haque set the standard, with the oppo quickly 27-5 after only 8 overs, including 4 clean bowled from Wolfy and an LBW from Adam. Adam was unlucky to have a caught and bowled appeal turned down, adjudged to be a bump ball by the square leg umpire.

Fulmer’s no.4 batsman Guarav returned to the field to umpire after his duck and quickly appealed to Itty to be allowed to bat again, given the opposition only had 10 players. Seeing his desperation to have another go, Itty eventually relented and gave permission for him to return at no.11.

Ali and Mikey took over the bowling for the next 10 overs, taking a wicket each whilst conceding a further 31 runs off the bat. Ali took the prize wicket of opening batsman Mani for 22, who had been patiently accumulating whilst seeing his teammates arrive and disappear at regular intervals.

With the score at 73-7 after the first 20 overs, Dipen and Ally took over. Ally bowled a tight line but was not rewarded with a wicket, completing 3 overs for 8 runs. Dipen showed some initial inconsistencies in line and length, going for 1-31 runs in his first 3 overs, which included a diving catch by Perry running in from the cow boundary.

The final over of Fulmer’s innings brought the highlight of the day! Dipen took the 9th wicket with his 3rd ball, bringing no.4 batsman Guarav back to the crease, desperate to make amends for his earlier duck. He lasted only two balls, edging a great straight ball from Dipen straight into the hands of first slip King Maj, leaving Fulmer with a total of 113 runs to defend and Dipen with figures of 4 overs, 3 wickets for 32 runs.

Perry Barnes and Andy T opened up the batting for ACC and achieved an opening partnership of 64 in the first 10 overs before Perry was dismissed for 13. With 50 runs needed for victory, a collapse ensued! Ali was caught on 6, EBay was bowled out for an 8 ball duck and Andy T was bowled for 52. The collapse continued as Ally was caught on 1 and King Maj was caught and bowled for 3 (perhaps the best catch that will be witnessed this season!) Adam was dismissed for 1 before Sheikh and Dipen steadied the ship, both finishing the innings not out for 11 and 8 respectively.

A great game played in good spirit. Despite the collapse the result never looked in doubt!
