Match report Match report: Aldenham vs Old Elizabethians 17/08/24

Events at the Parish were somewhat overshadowed by the final shows of Taylor Swift’s ERAS tour, but time was made between performances to sneak in a quick game.

ACC batted first and, ever the ”Anti-Hero”, DK departed for a disappointing 1 no doubt feeling like the “Smallest Man who ever Lived.” Ever “Ready for it”, Chris Munroe came to the crease and a flurry of boundaries would have left him feeling like “The Man.” When he was stumped for 30, “Everything had Changed” and although Pichy played in a “Fearless” manner he wasn't always timing the “Red” ball. Nevertheless, he compiled 28, before falling to an LBW decision when perhaps the umpire “Should’ve Said No.” At 145-3, ACC were in a good position, however a collapse not seen even in the oppositions “Wildest Dreams” saw the final 7 wickets fall for just 18 runs; a “Cruel Summer(‘s)” afternoon indeed. “Death by a thousand cuts” for the ACC lower order who batted as if in a “Lavender Haze” in the face of some very impressive bowling. Despite the quality of the opposition, ACC will know “All Too Well” that they should have batted “Better Man.”

Defending 163, ACC were in need of early wickets and were grateful that Amit Chakrawarti continued his “Love Story” with the stumps by taking three earlier victims and all of sudden ACC were “Enchanted” by the prospect of an unlikely win. However, OEs had a classy no. 5 who, with every flash of his bat said, “You need to calm down.” With Tim Hale “Never getting back together” with wickets, and Karan more interested in some “Vigilante Shit” than actually bowling anywhere near a length, a win was slipping away. “Guilty as Sin” AndyT dropped a tricky chance at deep backward square leg. “Shake if Off” demanded the skipper, and Mikey “London Boy” Ward bowled tightly to keep us in the game whilst AndyT proved that there was no “Bad Blood” by snaffling an outstanding catch in the same place as his previous faux pas. Nevertheless, it was too little, too late as OEs knocked off the winning runs and made off like a “Getaway Car” without showing any interest in sticking around for the “End Game” pint.

Ultimately, ACC were out played by a superior side who had more quality with bat and ball - “Karma” indeed for an Aldenham outfit that “Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve” played better. Ah well, “No Body, No Crime.” “So Long, London” next week as we head down to a tour that always “Hits Different.”
