Match report ACC Match Report – League Match vs Stevenage IIIs, 01/06/2024

How lucky we are to be able to while away a windy June afternoon playing the sport we love with our mates. Despite overcast conditions and a soft, green pitch on the Stevenage nursery ground, the Parishioners arrived in high spirits, eager to earn another 30 points on the road. Wardy arrived 30 minutes early for some extra practice in the nets and most of the rest of the team were on time. Late fees aren’t really a thing anymore apparently, so if anyone asks you for £14, flat out refuse. We can’t have different rules for different members of the club.

Chris won an important toss and elected to bowl. Tim and Amit both started in a miserly fashion and the pressure quickly told as Amit picked up 3 quick wickets. There was limited resistance from the Stevenage middle order as they struggled to find an answer to Viren’s control and spit on a tricky wicket. Despite several dropped catches (fielding practice before the game instead of nets Mikey?), Stevenage never really looked like posting a competitive total and Mike Ward and Karan Barot polished off the innings courtesy of some solid catching in the deep from Chris Munroe. Only 2 wides in the whole innings was a triumph considering last week’s troubles.

Set a mere 91 to chase, ACC were confident at tea, but they initially found scoring challenging and were soon 10-2 as Dan Knight succumbed to a ball that reared off a length and Sachin Sanghvi played back to one that kept a little low. Nevertheless, Steve Pich looked like he was playing on a different wicket to everyone else as he played a series of sublime shots to leave the result beyond doubt. Pich looks like a man determined to put periods of poor form behind him; could this be his year? With middle order support from K. Barot, the win was wrapped up comfortable before drinks for the loss of 4 wickets.

Man of the Match was keenly contested but ultimately awarded to Amit Chakrawarti for getting the ball rolling with key early wickets.
