Match report After perhaps the longest pre-toss chat in the history of cricket, the skippers decided Aldenham were bowling first and Jimmy B quickly pulled rank to claim the much-coveted ‘down-the-hill’ end from a disgruntled Tim Hale.

“Why does he get to pick which end he wants?”

“Because he’s a much better bowler than you Tim!”

An aggressive start by the Watford Town openers saw the scoreboard rattle along to 29-0 off 5 before a couple of wickets for both James and Tim saw proceedings grind to a halt. With Aldenham at full-strength with the bat there was a feeling that Watford were struggling to post an adequate score as Amit, Mikey and Ubaid continued to bowl decent areas and restrict the flow of runs. A late flurry saw the opposition reach 149 but ACC went into tea the happier side.

Cricket is a funny game and, not longer after Dan Knight had declared himself to be in the ‘form of his life’ and ‘definitely going to get another 100 soon,’ he fell for a golden duck to a shin high full-toss. Unlucky DK, sometimes you just get a good ball early. Fortunately, Chris and Pichy counteracted to relieve some of the pressure and get us to 40-1. A couple of quick wickets meant Watford were sniffing an upset but Aldenham had enough batting in the middle order to get over the line 5 down. Amit finished the game with some imperious boundary-hitting to earn a well-deserved man of the match for an all-round performance.
