Match report The season has started!

Our first game of the 2023 season. Some sterling work by the ground staff ensured we managed to host the pre-league fixture against Chingford. With Saturday skipper Chris Munroe sunning himself down under, it was left to stand in skipper Tim Hale to lead the Aldenham faithful. Plenty of late fees as the team gradually congregated at the home of cricket, with a super keen opposition raring to go. Tim won the toss and inserted Chingford on what looked to be a tricky green top.

This proved to be the case for the first 20 overs, with drinks taken with the score on 60 odd, with one wicket down, courtesy of a very full delivery from Vik which comprehensively bowled the opener. Unfortunately by drinks Vik had badly bruised his hand and would take no further part in the game.

The tenor of the game changed dramatically after drinks. The other opener tucked in to the Aldenham spinners with relish, and raced on to 118 before being dispatched by a combination of Amit and the Chairman, with a fine catch at long on. The same duo put paid to the number 5 off the next ball, but there was to be no hattrick. Amit did however clean up the number 6 shortly afterwards. At tea Chingford had amassed 195 for 4 off their 40 overs, which always looked a big ask on a challenging pitch.

The Aldenham top order struggled against some good Chingford bowling, and quickly found themselves at 27 for 5 after 11 overs. Whilst Amit was at the crease though these was still hope and stands of 43 with Tim and 50 with Ubaid brought some respectability to the score. But ultimately Amit fell for a very well constructed 66, leaving the Chingford bowlers to mop up the tail with Aldenham finishing 133 all out, so losing by 62 runs.

Credit to Tim for demonstrating some excellent sportsmanship by allowing the Chingford colt who came on as a sub to have a bowl. He duly took the last wicket, helped by his dad who took the catch!

Man of the match was Amit for a fine all round performance.
