Aldenham Cricket Club v Washington on Sun 15 May 2022 at 12.30
Aldenham Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets

Match report On a cloudy day with damp outfield and continuous slow rain ACC troops arrived at the Home of cricket.

Pre match mental preparation involved Eurovision discussion, refer a friend to open a bank account and get £20 instantly to which the Sunday skipper obliged swiftly. Not to forget a special request for ACC committee to consider from Richard Doughty to have a late start on Sunday so people can attend Sunday church service. Amen

Rock Paper Scissors toss which ACC won and we were in fielding first. Skipper bossing everyone around to put their whites on for a prompt 12.30 start whilst he had still not got his own whites on.Traditional 100 yrs old ACC ring the bell ceremony by the opposition skipper took place sharply at 1230 and off we went.

Good start from Timothy and Sheikh as both kept the opposition under pressure. Consistent line and length resulted in a wicket each for the pair and Washington were 25-2

More rain continued. CT came into bowl after reminding several players that he is in for his batting today and he prefers only batting now. First ball from CT and stumps were everywhere. Top of off but AJ still thought it kept low. CT looked happy but was asking himself am I a all rounder then?

Sheikh got rid of their batsmen no 5 LBW. In came Washington CC’s new American recruit Justin from Washington DC? who probably has not played much cricket before and must have thought its the same as baseball- First ball - Stumps everywhere. Justin - Just out. Sheikh now on a hat-rick which was blocked by the opposition skipper.

One of their opening batsman was still in batted really well and got 102 runs. Unfortunate catch dropped by Ubaid who juggled it 4 times before dropping it. Itty started showing some pain and discomfort so S Sanghvi stepped in to keep wickets in the last 10 overs. Village.

Washington managed to get to 185 -7 in 40 overs. Top wicket taker was Sheikh -3 wickets

Tim hale keenly discussing where to buy a house in North London with opposition players and hoping that chat would get him a free sandwich. It didn’t.

ACC opened with S Sanghvi and Ubaid. Both started slowly but steadily on a pitch which was very damp now due to more rain.

Some good shots got ACC to a decent start until Ubaid was caught behind for 23.

S Sanghvi with his dancing shoes on now seemed to be settled and was blooming to go big. Newly married A Tyrer joined him at 3 but was unlucky to be caught at mid on by a fantastic catch. Wish you a happy married life mate. Short and sweet visit by Timothy who was given out LBW went straight back on to Zoopla house hunting. Next came in ‘The ball is keeping low’ AJ who batted well to get to 26 until he was clean bowled top of off. (Must have kept low). Not much luck for Ally either who was caught shortly after. S Sanghvi continued with some lusty blows eventually got caught out on 71. With the game nearly in the bag now CT and Basil finished the game off nicely particularly CT hitting some good shots and a big 6 to finish off the innings with 3 overs or so to spare. One to impress the missus said CT - 30 not out

Big Sunday win but there is no such thing as Sunday cricket said everyone.

MOM - S Sanghvi

Go well!!
