Aldenham Cricket Club Won by 3 wickets

Match report Aldenham CC vs New Calypsonians

1pm Start

We returned to the parish for the first time for the Sunday squad this year. Following on from an excellent first #LEAGUE win of the season the previous day, there was a lot of smiles, high hopes and even the sun came out to show its support.

The annual friendly vs our good friends the New Calypsonians is always a great fixture and today didn’t disappoint. No toss needed as the Calypsonians offered to bat first and ACC lads set up following the first of many motivating speeches from skipper Baz/Barry (Not Basil anymore).

Our good friends and ACC part timers Patel and Dush opened up and took the consistent peppering from Sheik and CT. It wasn’t long for the first dismissal however as Patel walked following a LBW bowled by CT.

Sheik bowling up the hill also got in on the action soon after bowling Dush out and ACC started to take control of the tie. As the temperature rose throughout the day, the new calypsonians grew into the game and a solid no.3 stayed in for the majority before ACC veteran Barot with a dangerous looping bowl enticed the batter to swing and miss as the bails flew off.

Mini haque (Adam) also bowled well and would have got his wicket if it wasn’t for a high ball drop by AJ. Barot continued a smart spell taking another two wickets with the skipper, CT and sheik also picking up wickets, which left ACC chasing 216 after teas.

After a quick teas turn around Ebay and Sach stepped into the crease to chase down the 216 set. Both batted strongly and quickly got up to 61 before Sach was bowled. Newbie Majid joined the picture but struggled to get set and was caught after 3 (we go again!).

Barot next up and a fine 6 into the car park after his first, was the highlight of his batting as he was also caught the following over. AJ and Ebay both held their own, specifically ebay who reached his half century before getting caught. AJ followed the same way (story of the day).

Itty next, following a sensational 93 the previous day gave the ACC crowd hope as the run rate needed started to creep over 9 an over and worked well with second newbie Ally as they both enjoyed several boundaries. Itty – Bowled.

Where to look next for the skipper as he pads up, together with Ally they both provided some stability and picked up consistent runs which brought that out of reach run rate within touching distance.

Time for the big gun fast bowler Fabian, a few nervous moments before both batters started dispatching his balls for 4’s and sixes.

Final over with 8 to get from the final 6…first ball 1…second Ally run out…third ball 4…fourth 4 and the win (According to the book* I’m pretty sure it was different but cannot remember)!

What matters is that this was a first win for the Sunday squad this season, as we move onto next weekend for a double at the parish…Come on the A’s!!!
