Ashburton v Aldenham Cricket Club on Mon 30 Aug 2021 at 13:00
Aldenham Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets
Match report
Third game of the 2021 tour with the Brigadier Head of Operations. What could go wrong?? The Brigadier left the Lavender House first for the 2 mile journey but having not made suitable advance planning found himself stuck in traffic for 40 + minutes thus being last to the game. One suggests a desk job beckons? Thankfully he managed to get a morse code message to The Pimp and the troops all turned left out of the Lavender House avoiding the minefield and arrived at the ground within 10 minutes. What greeted the Parishoners was an elderly gentleman undertaking a vigorous training regime, and it would have it's just rewards.
The late arriving Brigadier lost the toss and The Parish were inserted. It was at this point DKD was advised that his 12th Man berth had been taken, was there disappointment, none whatsoever. The Chairman in a rich vein of form together with 50 man AJ opened. Some glorious shots from The Chairman in his 29 that ended when he was caught one handed by the elderly gentleman who had come out of retirement after 30 years. Who was in next? Well it is a tour game so it was Barry Letts who flirted briefly, dropped by the elderly gentleman on 15, made amends and was out bowled comprehensively by Kanye West for 16! AJ was solid for his 19, so who was in next as it is a tour game .... Karan Barot??? 3rd game on tour batted 2,4,4???? Well at least this time Kuzza finally got his maiden 50 of the season and went on to make 62. The Pimp suffering from Naked Wrestling and Long Arm Drinking blasted a quick paracetemol filled 17.
Now time for the Non Scorers! Josh Bazeley went for a 9 ball 0, Itty LBW 0 (Giving Norton Sub Hamden's League Umpire Grief???), The Brigadier LBW 0 (Giving Ashburton's Umpire Grief???). Levers with 26 and Char with 32 carried the Parish to a decent score. Special words to Char who retired with an over to go to ensure Adam got a bat and lasted 3 balls longer than his father and unbeaten. Well it is a Tour Game?? Ensuring the heavily hungover Minty was DNB.
Failure Not an Option - ACC 230 for 8
Coming out of the pandemic is a relief but still no Ashburton Teas, which is an absolute feast! So The Parishoners had to rely on Petrol Station and Co-op snacks to prepare for the second innings. Did the Parish have enough runs?? Our Tour Manager thought we were 20 light? Surely not for a 35 over game in fading light. Char & Lever opened the bowling and were followed by The Pimp and Adam. This was a dull 18 overs of Cricket. ACC were wicketless and Ashburton were well behind the scoring rate. But now the tiredness of Naked Wrestling, Riding the Bus, Long Arm Drinking, 5.30am Club was starting to take it's toll. Much to the annoyance of The Brigadier. " You all look like a bunch of teapots!!" Drinks.
The Brigadier straight out of an Ant Middleton "Who dares wins" Audition lambasted his weary parishoners and looked for an immediate response. 3 balls later The Pimp struck and Pascoe Junior went for 56. A further wicket for the Pimp and one for his replacement Barry "Back of the Length" Letts couldn't stem the tide of runs. Accompanied by some tired fielding the chase was on. The Tour Manager was pacing the boundary line, surely failure wasn't an option??
Time for Charlie's second spell, a massive wicket as Pascoe Senior fell 2 short of a Century. Well batted sir! That bought danger man Lloyd to the wicket and it was all to play for. Lloyd hit a massive straight 6 but then succumbed to the Char slow ball for 11, surely he had seen that before? Well bowled Char! But it just wasn't to be as Ashburton reached their target in the final over. Proving failure is an option but overall what an excellent game of Cricket. That brought to an end another fantastic Devon Tour. Thank you Pete Munroe!!!
