Aldenham Cricket Club v Northwest CC on Sun 25 Jul 2021 at 12:30
Aldenham Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets

Match report After the high of the previous day’s birthday celebrations….Bufday levers, you wouldn’t have thought the selected 11 would be able to raise their spirits to such levels come 12.30. Luckily for those involved, the game didn’t start until closer to 1 despite the frustrations of those that needed to make long journeys post match. The spirits of ACC playing members were only worsened when skipper Haque swung his arms round which could only mean one thing….bowling first lads!!!

Thanks to the commitment or lack of anything else to do in his life, Char was handed his first love….a brand new Dukes ball!! Rumours were circulating that he was on a hattrick ball thanks for the previous days rabbit hutch cleaning but their was some debate if it actually qualified as a hat trick should the impossible task of taking a wicket of the first ball of the match happen. Thankfully, Chars first ball was terrible and we could move on with our lives. The first ball seemed to be a sign of things to come as multiple boundaries followed and he was whisked off after 3 overs!! You can imagine his reaction…

At the other end, the dog began to shake…or Sheikh and soon made himself a wolf with some quality bowling up the famous Aldenham hill deserving his stroke of luck with an accidental stumping of Ittys chest which gave the As their first victim.

Kunal was asked to apply some pressure from the social club end in his first match in ACC/Langleybury colours. It didn’t take him long before he rewarded his skipper with his first wicket for the club which seem to lift the tired looking fielding team to new levels. New levels included; fruit and veg puns, silent overs, direct questions such as ‘if you were a fruit, what fruit would you be and why’….it’s good to have you back Barry!! Little did we know that the latest episode of the silent over was going to mean a near mass brawl with an umpire and Aldenhams most capped player this season. Some unnecessary name calling and the opposition team running on to prevent the umpire from filling in the bowler….maybe keep your mouth shut next time Ubaid!!!

Tight bowling from the outstanding, talented, all round good guy yet a little sensitive Barry Letts and James ‘my diary is fully booked’ Bazeley meant the visitors had to flex their muscles come the back end of their innings and boy did they. Top scorers were batsman number 8 and 10 tells you all you need to know. It was raining 6s at one point! Back of a length Barry was on top form helped by the Pimp who restricted Northwest CC to 212 all out with a flurry of late wickets..

Luckily some sheepish apologies were shared and the run chase was on.

The batting order seemed to be based on who needed to leave early rather than a well thought out selection process yet it was ACC loving Patel and Sach ‘I spend more time on holiday than doing anything else’ Sanghvi in his sun hat. That sun hat was only protecting him from the drizzle that ACC seemed to have to bat their whole innings through. However, that didn’t stop the openers from reaching a 100 wicket partnership giving the hosts a fantastic start and a base to build on. Unfortunately, both were out soon after. Jug avoiding Sach who was obviously jet lagged chucking a full toss to mid-wicket and a tired looking Patel who looked good for his 37.

New pair AJ and Char were in having seen the Pimp disappear out the car park to fulfil this week’s girlfriend visit despite being match reporting duties were in. AJ (on a pair) was soon the latest victim of Chars running partner, manipulating the field with the occasional boundary reducing the required run rate as the game was going exactly how the hosts wanted. To make life a little interesting, the forecasted heavy downpour was soon upon us but with a long journey back to the north west, a batsman smashing it to all parts and a fielding team wanting to finish the game off meant we battled through the showers to conclude a finely balanced match. It wasn’t long after that the weekly Aldenham batting collapse was in full flow with Andy missing a straight one after just being told what score he was on, Ubaid gifting his wicket to spend as much time away from the opposition as possible and Dush chipping a leg stump half volley to mid-wicket. Luckily Char was holding up an end excited to renew his previous days partnership with Aldenhams greatest ever batsman Barry Letts. Little did we know that Barry doesn’t bat in the rain.

It wasn’t long before Chars lack of bottle was on show falling just short of the winning line. Needing 10 off 18, debutant Kunal and Itty saw ACC home meaning all batsman yet to bat could protect their average.

MOM: Char – probably because he had to right his second match report of the weekend (that’s me done for this year thanks Mikey)
