Aldenham Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets
Match report
IT DIDN'T COME HOME, BUT A COMFORTABLE WIN FOR THE A's
Sunday 11th July 2021
Friendly vs Fulmer
40 over game
A day that promised so much proved too much for England, but the A's put 3 losses in a row behind them with in the end a comfortable run chase.
The stage was set and all the jobs were done, but at 12.15 (12.30 start) still no oppo. They began streaming in with around 5 minutes to go until start, and a 40 over game was decided. No idea who won the toss but the As were in the field.
James 'The Pimp' Bazeley and Sofa Carpet Sofas finest Raj Chandel opened the bowling. Fulmers openers looked classy and put any loose deliveries away, but these were few and far between from two early player of the season candidates. Raj was particularly probing on off stump and unlucky not to pick up a wicket in his first spell.
Dicky replaced James down the hill, and Dicky would be the first to admit that he has not been in his best form (thanks for the email in the week Dicky, an insight in to the Dicksters pre match preparations, truly fascinating). Dicky though for the first couple of overs rolled back the years with flight and guile and no little skill. The luxuriously named Raghavendradas Ameechand (or Rag, or to James 'is this Raj') replaced Raj up the hill, and with a bustling run up delivered some pacey but erratic seam. A few balls were delivered in to the undergrowth but with a questionably high full toss skied to square leg we had our first scalp, and Rags first for the club.
Dicky though received some tap towards the end and was replaced by Wardy in his now favoured down the hill. First ball customarily smoked through covers for 4, but after this Wardy got in to a rhythm with a little away swing, and picked up the other opener with a snick off to Itty, caught at the second take. Ebay replaced Rag and again was effective, picking up 3 wickets in the process from his 4 tidy overs including a send off of the number 3 who did nothing more than exude class in well made 42.
Fulmers 8 & 9 your reporter described fondly to the square leg umpire as popular 90's WWE wrestlers Legion of Doom, these two were big boys and started to launch Wardster over cow for some huge sixes. Luckily the Bomb was looking to pull the pin out and throw down some grenades, so took the ensuing punishment. I will start at the end, Bombs figures of 4-0-50-2 had everything. Two fine catches from Baz and James respectively were interspersed amongst some fearsome hitting which cleared the car park and all of the children from the playground at ASC. Welcome back Mark.
Barry Letts, fresh from a 5am arrival and plenty of pre-game chat (really glad you got those 10 hours from Singapore) came on for some customary grunting. Fine figures of 4-2-3-1 for Barry as the Legion of Doom saved themselves for the Bomb. Raj came back at the end and picked up a couple of deserved wickets to finish Fulmer off.
Fulmer 192 all out from 36.2 overs, Ebay 3-17, Raj 2-22, Bomb 2-50
New Calypsonians finest Patel and Dush, regular appearers in ACCs Sunday XI these days, opened the chase and Patel in particular dealt with the opening bowled comfortably. One glorious cover drive with very little back lift will live long in the memory for your reporter, at this point umpiring. Dush got in on the act, hitting a cracking pull for 6 over cow.
Spin was introduced and this brought about some change, first Dush and not long followed by Ebay and Patel, ACC were reduced to in the region of 65-3. James, promoted to 3 as he claimed he needed to leave for Shoreditch at 5pm, and Barry Letts then set about the bowling with gay abandon. James brutalised whilst Barry looked to rotate, James hitting his way to a fantastic 86* and batting until well beyond his scheduled leave, in the end deciding to stay at ASC for the football. Barry finished on 40*, welcome back.
ACC 193-3 from 31.2 overs, James 86* Barry 40*
Win by 7 wickets
And then there was the evening. An excellent gathering and a real feel good factor amongst the ACC faithful, spirits were high. All know by now that we lost on pens to Italy, and to say it was a rollercoaster ride is an understatement, and an evening I will never forget, some for the wrong reasons which we won't go in to on here. But we will come back stronger. On to the Old Chol this Saturday.
