Aldenham Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets

Match report Aldenham CC vs Full Tossers – Sunday Friendly
Another competitive game of Cricket at the Parish, saw the mighty ACC take on the Full Tossers. The weather behaved itself for the majority of the morning which allowed for a full afternoon of cricket starting on time at 12:30 (few of the lads still needing to work out how to turn their alarm clocks on for the 11:45 meet however ‘’£2 Please’’).
Skipper Itty won the toss and elected to bat first in the 35 over match and ACC finest Matty Anson & AJ opened cautiously as they eased into the match. The first wicket came in the 9th over as AJ was bowled as the partnership tried a few riskier shots – 13/1.
3rd in stepped Sach, needing to increase the pace of the game both Anson and Sanghvi did just that with some fine shots finding the gaps and the boundaries started to roll in. It took another 10 overs for the Full Tossers to break the partnership when Anson was caught attempting his trademark lob over the gully but this time it didn’t have the legs – out for 21. 75/2.
Hayden was in next, showing a full recovery from his dodgy back, Sach had him on sprinting duty keeping the tally ticking over but it was short lived as both received their marching orders in the same over. Hayden caught on 6 and Sach stumped on 41, ACC’s highest of the day (Surely a contender for that MoM – more to come on that) . 88/4.
Minesh Shah and Itty joined forces as Minesh picked up his bat for the first time in 14 years. A well blocked first bowl eased the nerves before the middle stump was ripped out the ground in the next. Not the warmest welcome back but a smile still on his face as he was replaced by the PIMP.
The PIMP and Itty had a task on their hands to steady the ship after 3 quick wickets, both hitting well and built a healthier score of 125 until Itty was bowled. J Rogers in and what a start, first bowl 6 followed shortly after by a 4 with the PIMP following suit with a big 6. A few bowls later saw the departure of Rogers as he went searching again but caught.
146/7 – Next up CT still searching for those elusive first runs for ACC. JB had him running, sneaking in 3 runs after a miss throw. 2 blocks to start CT’s batting found himself in new territory (normally he’s out by now) and then the moment the crowd we’re waiting for he got his first run.
JB was next in the firing line getting bowled and in steps Junior Haque – clearly been giving his old man lessons as a composed last over from Haque saw him hit the boundary for four and solid running between the sticks.
ACC 156/8 after 35.
During the break the weather tried to spoil the party with a few spits of rain however it behaved and the Full Tossers were ready to chase. JB opened the bowling and a rapid start found the opener bowled after 3 bowls with no return (QUACK QUACK).

At this point of the first over it was a great time to count the fielders when we realised AJ was taking an extended break. Back to full capacity of 11 for the second over. Rogers also starting strongly with a maiden to kick start his spell. JB then continued the success in the 3rd taking their no. 2 with a catch behind the wickets.

The strong start could have been even better however a drop by Skipper behind the sticks followed by the next with Hayden chasing backwards but the ball covered by snow by the time it hit the top of his fingers and dropped behind his head.

The Full Tossers similar to ACC then got into a rhythm for the next few overs before CT bowls their no. 4. Junior Adam Haque again showing what he can do with the ball now in his hands lumping the pressure on the oppo.

CT up for his 3rd over didn’t imagine how controversial it would be, a small nick past square leg JB saw the batters chasing the second before a rocket from JB heading straight for the stumps. Itty gathers and the bails were off. Celebrations had begun and Itty was halfway down the square before realising the umpire’s finger was not in the air.

Calls continued from the ACC faithful were snubbed by Square leg umpire – the Haques both shared their opinions at the end of the over before the umpire called to draw a line in the sand. Itty gets the last word in and wins the battle of the words however the batter wins the war continuing in for the rest of the innings hitting us for 79.

Hayden, Dickie and Minesh all produced some very consistent bowling however unfortunately the luck of the draw wasn’t on ACC’s side the rest of the afternoon as the FT’s pairing continued to spot the gaps and eased towards the 157 mark.

There were only two questionable moments to follow and this time not from the umpire but ACC’s duo AJ and the Pimp.
The PIMP clearly feeling the effects of a ‘large’ night out in Shoreditch the night before found himself running the wrong direction to the ball before chasing his heels as the ball rolled over the white line for a four.

Next up, AJ, struggling to keep the non-existent sun out of his eyes through the grey clouds lost the high ball and ended up anywhere between 6 inches to 6 feet depending on who you ask away from him. The real question after was whether it was a drop ball or not – one for the committee to decide later in the year.

After 29 overs, The Full Tossers got the runs needed (157) and finished the game comfortably in the end. Jugs all round after were welcomed and a few dodgy MoM tactical voting followed with JB receiving the honours to Sach’s dismay.

All in all, another enjoyable Sunday afternoon at the home of Cricket.

Till next week ACC…
