Match report
Match Report vs. Wheathampstead 2s
Chris was disappointed to lose the toss and see his Aldenham side inserted. He had high hopes of bowling first and wrapping up a quick victory so he could watch Watford in the late kick off. I imagine he is now less fussed about having missed that particular fixture.
The rain was falling and made conditions challenging for the Wheathampstead fielders and bowlers alike. Chris plundered 21 runs from the first over but was removed shortly afterwards for a quickfire 31. Sachin and Andy T consolidated before Pichy added some impetus with a couple of lusty blows into the surrounding fields. At around 100-3 at drinks, the platform had been established and Amit took full advantage of this in the second half of the innings. He was caught going for another monstrous 6 for a match-deciding 81. Late cameos from Ubaid, Barry and Itty propelled the home side to an imposing 294 from their 45 overs.
At tea, there was a suggestion of employing the new ACC covers kindly provided by the OMOA. A search for the promised tarpaulin unearthed what could more accurately be described as industrial cling film, perhaps a foot wide. We’re not sure how we were supposed to use this to keep the pitch dry Pete?
There was perhaps some complacency in the Aldenham fielding effort with a few lacklustre efforts at ground fielding and some ‘tricky’ dropped catches (unlucky Pichy). Nevertheless, CTCT and Sheikh made inroads in their opening spell and the game looked to be drifting away from the visitors. A dominant 6th wicket partnership made the game interesting – the wicket was flat and, with the short boundary, it can be hard to defend. However, once captain sidehats / minty / beefy took responsibility and brought himself into the attack, he snared a key wicket to break the partnership and, from then on, the win looked secure.
Promotion is still a possibility but we need the heroic non-touring 8 to pull off a win and for another slip from either of the two sides ahead of us. BELIEVE.
