Match report Aldenham CC vs Harpenden IV 4’s

With the weather forecasted to look pretty miserable, ACC decide to rock up to St Georges School to see what the pitch is saying. A quick inspection, slightly damp from a brief patch of rain the night before, but certainly playable. The sun was out, and so were the household pets with the PIMP showing his true skills as the ‘cat whisperer’.

Captains toss up, Chrissy M winning as per and selecting to field first. The team whack on their whites and prepare for the allocated 45 overs in the school field. Jimmy B and Ammo opening up the bowling. Ammo coming down the slope and looking in fine touch as he bowls his first. Two wickets in Ammo’s first over really set the tone for the rest of this innings. PIMP B pacing up the hill, bowling short and straight picks up the third wicket soon after, off a gracious catch in the deep from Ammo. So, 3 wickets down, for not many runs. Ammo continues down the hill snatching his 3rd of the day, with some very tidy bowling. Was Michelle calling?? Jimmy B grabs another as well, batsman skying one and Itty taking an easy catch. Raj replaces the PIMP coming up the hill, with Ammo still storming down looking for his 4th. Thankfully, the 4th comes with the skipper taking a gorgeous catch at slip falling to his right. Michelle is knocking, is anyone home?? Ammo continues to push to get his 5th but finishes his spectacular spell with 8 overs, 2 maidens, 19 runs, 4 wickets. Top spell Ammo!! The opposition still flustered being 6 down after 15 overs for around 40 runs. Raj bowling a storm up the hill, first gaining a catch at square-leg from the Sheik-dog, top catch. Then another two for Raj followed, with him bowling the 8th and gaining an LBW decision for the 9th batsmen. Then finally, the Wolf got his turn bowling down the hill, and taking the final wicket off his 3rd ball. First innings all over even before our first drinks break. Well bowled ACC!

Harpenden 4’s finishing on 69 runs all out. Time for a quick tea.

Baz and Ebay opening up after tea, with a run chase that looked doable. Baz taking all the strike from the first and second over, claiming before he went out that the 3rd batsman won’t be needed, sorry Timbo. But also proving that Ebay wasn’t needed, after Baz hit 36 runs in very quick succession. An LBW decision doesn’t go Baz’s way, being dismissed for 36, and Levers entering the field of playing about to prove why he would be needed. Both Ebay and Tim hitting some lovely shots round the ground, but being asked to get a move on as the skip was desperate for a pint before the rain came down. Clouds moving in, umpire change to get the info out to the batsman. Final push, Levers is caught for 8 with J Rog and Itty coming in to finish off the chase just before the rai hit. Well batted Baz and Ebay (20 not out). Great win lads. See you next Saturday for the game against Chrissy’s favourite team.
