Match report ACC GET OFF TO A WINNING START

For many Cricketers the 17th April was like waking up on Christmas day and coming downstairs to find your parents had got you a brand spanking new bike – it was of course the start of the cricket season. The sun was shining, the pitch had been prepped, the opposition had arrived and it was time to do what we had all been waiting for the past 6 months, which was of course to play some bat on ball.
With usual Saturday captain, chris munroe, inspecting the next crop of Munroe ACC superstars in Liverpool it was up to Itty Haque to lead the parishioners into gladiatorial battle. Winning the toss Itty decided to field first despite “superstar” Karan Barot attempting to pull out due to a bad back (despite ending up doing a double, scoring 61 runs and bowling 5 overs throughout the weekend).
So it was the Aldenham 10 which took the field against Chingford, with opening spells from Tim ‘Levers’ Hale and Chris Hewett. Both economical but unable to find a breakthrough were replaced by Joe ‘middle name?’ Rogers and Amit ‘coach’ Chakrawati. Joe bowled a tidy 4 over spell up the hill but it was Amit who defies his age by simply rocking up and sticking the ball immediately on the right spot and continued to probe around for 8 overs on the bounce with fear that he wouldn’t be able to move again once he stopped bowling. He picked up a couple of wickets.
Both men were replaced by DKD with some sort of off-spin/long-hop hybrid and new man Hayden ‘Haydos’ Nielson, respectively. Haydos, after initially struggling up the famous aldenham slope had better success coming down the hill but was eventually replaced by social media officer Slik Vik who rattled through the tail picking up extraordinary figures of 5-1-11-4, why do the rest of us bother?
Chingford finished on 186 being bowled out after 38 overs
After a BYOT, internet auctioneer expert Ubaid Khaliq set up his camera and opened the batting with loudmouth Sachin ‘IT COULD BE YOU NEXT’, and it was Sachin next, as he was bowled for a disappointing 1. Ubaid was then joined by specialist off spinner DK who struggled for 11 off 33; followed by an entertaining stint from Joe Rogers (2 from 8).
Whilst the chaos surrounded him, Ubaid continued a free flowing innings but eventually fell for a well-made 43 and was replaced by Acc’s resurrected Karan Barot who had shrug off his life threatening back injury. He was joined by Haydos, scoring a 17 on debut with some lovely cover drives. The innings was finished off from some typical Itty Haque and Amit chakriwati boundaries and ACC successfully chased 187 with 5.5 overs to spare.
It was great to be back at the home of cricket and surrounded by so many great people, the match was skippered by Itty in good friendly fashion with everybody contributing in the match. Moment of the day for me was sitting in the sun by the pavilion at the end of the day sharing a beer after playing the sport we love.
