Bengeo v Aldenham Cricket Club Cup XI on Wed 06 Jul 2022 at 18:00
Aldenham Cricket Club Won by 74 runs

Match report Having two overseas visitors in Tilsworth is fantastic but when one is playing Cricket in Bengeo on a Wednesday evening without transport, a logistical nightmare. Thankfully with Roger Federer's omission from this years Wimbledon and on the ACC teamsheet and residing in Leicester, a solution! Thanks Rog!!

So nothing else to worry about apart from a call to Dan Knight at the Hilton W1, for a quick vehicle change, all sorted. Of course not, enter the triangle Karan Barot, his motorised scooter and Samkit. " Uncle where is the nearest station" ??? "I can only get to Kings Langley station for 4.59pm"!! So a 5.30pm meet is out of the equation. The journey is filled with calls to Butthi arranging PCR tests at the Intercontinental Hotel, Park Lane and calls from Doctor who is need of a Viana taxi from the Jumeirah Hotel to Southampton ready for his cruise??

So instead of relying on my front seat passenger for accurate directions we arrive at Bengo at 5.53pm. Chris and the Oppo skip toss which result in ACC batting first. "Jerry can you Umpire?" so there starts my evening at 58 years old ready to partake in all 38.1 overs.

Chris and Nadeem opened the batting with an array of lusty blows. Nadeem whose batting style is akin to a very confident in form Nick Reay, swung and missed frequently, cleared the boundary once and was clean bowled for 6. Roger was in at 3 but a loose cross court forehand saw him caught for 1. Chris continued to dominate the bowling and the arrival of Karan "I am always working but not when I am batting"!!

The slow left arm Bengeo bowler was starting to ask questions and tie both batsmen down. This meant singles and two's were required. Unfortunately Karan's lack of fitness wasn't quite ready for this. His attire was all over the place and the game was halted whilst he dropped his trousers exposing his lilac pants to all including CT's parents. Maybe he was challenging Vic Khanna's batting issues from Sunday.

Chris passed 50 with a huge 6 and went on to make 67, well batted. Andrew Naudi joined Karan and the two carried the Parish past 150. Karan reached 50, an innings that had everything, including expletives whilst running 2's?? The oppo were bemused and complained to the Umpire, my rebuff that diffused the situation "Be thankful he is in our side and not yours" Well batted Karan!

Karan was caught for 51. Andy enjoyed a free hit having been exposed to a chest high full toss. So 4 down with 3 balls to go, Itty was bowled first ball, unable to recreate his previous Bengeo experience and then Levers pushed a wide ball in the air straight to cover, leaving Vik to see out the Hat Trick ball.

ACC 162 for 6

Vik opened the bowling and a great first over was capped off by the first wicket falling. 2 for 1 was the writing on the wall? CT opened up from the far end and bowled his first 2 midweek overs, well done Callum. First change saw Mikey replace Callum and the wicket offered great assistance as it did for the Bengeo spinner.

Second wicket to Mikey and both openers gone with 32 on the board. After 3 great overs Vik was replaced by Nadeem and his pace was a real threat. "Chris if I was in the nets and Nadeem was bowling, i would walk out!!" Chris "AJ did!!"
Nadeem clean bowled one and felled another!

All the successes though were at the other end as Mikey with the aid of four fantastic catches from Chris, Nadeem, Itty and Andy. A Michelle Pfeiffer for our twice retired midweek spinner. Well done Mikey and thanks for those Fosters cans, a welcome change to the Strongbows of 10 years ago.

Nadeem was replaced by Andy who chipped in with two wickets courtesy of a stumping from Itty and a great catch from Roger at Deep Square Leg. Leaving the final wicket pair at the crease. Levers replaced Mikey and the final wicket fell courtesy of a run out.

Bengeo 89 all out after 18.1 overs.

So a comfortable victory and a great team performance on our long awaited return to Bengeo and just one step away from Finals Day. Flamstead away and the Skipper fully aware that he can't change a winning side!!

Everyone enjoyed their evening, well nearly?? Skip to Levers "Did you enjoy that tonight Levers?" "No!!". And this was before his return journey included Karan Barot, A motorised scooter & Samkit!! See you all in Flamstead
