Aldenham clinched their third victory of the season thanks to an inspired 135 not out from Sunday skipper Basil “Barry” “Bazla” Letts.

Bowling first, Vik grunted through some speedy deliveries, possibly taking a caught and bowled in the early stages but denied by a very confused umpire. Still a very solid spell, taking two wickets before Amit-fresh from a 2 and a half journey for the Parish- took a further two. It could have been 3, but Andy J couldn’t quite make a tricky looping catch just behind square leg as drinks approached (stayed low…).

Hitchin ticked away to 179-6 after 40 overs with a second half low of action until Wardy “the Cat” spiralled down to his left to halt a shot off his own bowling as the overs ticked down.

In came Basil for his first #league appearance of the season, joined by Sachin. The Sunday skipper didn’t wait long, taking the reins and finding the boundary with ease as Sach played a solid if low scoring opening role. But soon his wicket was gone, and ACC looked in a strong position for the chase with Ubaid, Kuzza, Amit to follow. But a mid-innings wobble saw all 3 out for only a handful of runs. In came Andy J, with the job of defending his wicket so Basil - already past the 100 mark- could knock the winning runs. That he did, with a second top score of the day of just 9 not out, as Basil held his bat and hit the 135 mark.

A seemingly comfortable victory but with a note that the runs will need to be spread further through the batters if ACC are to clinch promotion come September.
