Brentham v Aldenham Cricket Club Aldenham Cricket Club on Sun 09 May 2021 at 13:00
Aldenham Cricket Club Won by 112 runs

Match report Hi all,

First of all I would like to start by thanking Rakesh Prasher, Alistair “Ali” Slaughter and Sranjeet Saluga from Actonians and Dushant “Dush” Pandit, Pradip Patel and Kshitij Patel from New Calypsonians. These fellas joined us so we were all able to get out and enjoy some cricket.

After Skipper Sachin “Sach” Sanghvi won the toss and elected to bat openers Ubaid “EBay” Khaliq and Pradip went to face what Brentham had. Sadly for Brentham they didn’t get off to a good start. In an attempt to stop a hard hit straight drive, in a football like fashion, he badly hurt his foot and was no longer able to continue. However it wasn’t all bad news for the opposition getting the lucky wickets of EBay for 11 and Pradip for 23.

With Sach and Ali now at the crease facing some tight bowling and taking their time to get their eye in the game looked tight. This was not to last long though as both Sach and Ali started seeing them like beach balls. Sach handling the added pressure of the captaincy brilliantly, cruised through to 72 runs from 63 before being caught. Ali was not to be outdone though, putting on an absolute masterclass of batting. Using a wide arsenal of shots he comfortably went on to make 101 off 62 before being retired. What a performance!

This now left us with only a few overs to go with Dush and Rakesh at the crease. Having a bit of fun with it, Dush ended on 8* from 11 and Rakesh 2* off 1. After a superb batting innings we went confidently into the field leaving Brentham to chase 233.

£3 meal deals consumed it was time to take to the field. After a truly inspiring (socially distanced) team huddle we were ready to show Brentham what our mismatch team were made of. It didn’t take long for the bails to start flying leaving the opposition 32-5 at one stage. Saranjeet was simply unplayable taking a ridiculous 5 wickets for only 7 runs. CT also bowled particularly well taking a wicket and only going for 14 from his 8 over spell. Dush, Rakesh, Ali and Itty getting in on the action and taking a wicket each. Yes you read that right. After giving the gloves to Sach at tea, Itty was given the ball and told to have a bowl. However it didn’t take him long to work it out, taking the final wicket after only his third ball.

The field was truly buzzing for the whole innings. A true champagne moment was a superb catch from Callum that left even himself wondering how the ball was still in his outstretched hand. Dush, Ali and Patel were also safe as houses under the high ball taking quality catches.

All in all it was a truly brilliant day of cricket had by all. As usual a huge thanks to Michael for putting a team together (especially difficult this week), and also to our hosts Brentham for having us. We wish your bowler a speedy recovery.
