Aldenham Cricket Club Won by 37 runs

Match report Aldenhan CC vs Abbots Langley
Another stella afternoon of cricket at the parish was witnessed this weekend, the sun was out (just), a lot of late fines and some questionable batting, bowling and fielding what more can you ask for a Saturday September fixture.
Aldenham won the toss and elected to bat first, the first of many great decisions by skipper for the day Tim Hale, considering a few of the team were still returning or recovering from Brighton the night before. 40 over format for the day. Game On.
Skipper Levers and Ubaid partnered up to open the innings however it wasn’t the fairy-tale start as Skip fell for 1, bowled by their no.1 bowler. Ubaid steadying the ship with some boundary finders supported by a strong defence from Shaneo however Shane fell victim to another great ball and the bails flew off 14/2 and a worrying picture.
Return of the Aussie sensation, Haydoes joined the batting line up, returning from the delights of the French riveriea for the sunshine at the parish, he struggled to get going due to the young bowling line up keeping him locked in his crease before he was eventually bowled for 3.
Ubaid continued to produce some delightful shots and his 4th partner of the day decided to stay out with him for longer than 2 overs. Saranjeet, one of Aldenhams favourite ringers, helped out again and built a great partnership with Ubaid out on the square both finding their rhythms and both reaching the half century after some questionable calling between the sticks (Communication not the highlight of the match for the Aldenham lads).
Ubaid eventually caught on 63 well batted! In steps Itty looking to build on his 50 from the previous week and needing to lift the scoreboard (150/4) the big hitter was looking to find some form however he didn’t have the impact needed, caught at mid on for 1, 151/5.
Luckily AJ aka BBA had arrived just in time to get his whites on and walked straight on to partner Saranjeet who know was playing exceptional shots through the gaps. One shot to far however and was also caught on 72. With not a lot left in the pavilion and Baz still making his way around the M25, up stepped Gabriel Bohm aka little bohm, the grenade and 50% of the bohm squad!! The 10 year old who oozed confidence stepped up however was bowled first ball, a tough lesson however didn’t stop him produce exceptional bowling in the second half.
179/7 – In stepped CT CT CT, an establish batter by now with a high score of 1 for the season there wasn’t much hope however surprisingly for himself and the crowd achieved his first boundary for the club (FOUR)! AJ the other end also was finding the boundary with ease before being bowled and just in time for Basil to finish a rollercaoster afternoon for the A’s in the final over hitting 16 off 5 balls to strengthen the score slightly. 40 gone for 205!
After teas, an inspiring huddle orchestrated by the new skipper Levers who emphasised the importance of battering a team with the average age of 14 was more important than the friendly. The A’s strolled out with CT and Baz Letts opened the bowling.
A strong defensive start from Abotts was halted through both the openers sharing a wicket a piece. 30/2 after 10. This continued into the next over as the Aussie superman dived to make arguably the greatest catch seen at the parish for years as his whole body horizontally hovered about 6 inches form the ground and as it hit the palm of his hand…unfortunately haydos dropped it. This didn’t stop him as he threw the ball back to the bowler and was a run out – what could have been!
The A’s strong bowling outfit continued to frustrate the Aboots team with little bohm producing some exceptional bowling adding pressure to the run rate which continued to rise. Hayden also picking up from he left off also preventing any rhythm for the Abootss middle order.
A few drops here and there by Itty and AJ didn’t cause to much concern. However, we needed wickets and Mark Bohm aka big bohm, the nuclear and the other 50% of the bohm squad produced. The spinner ruthless in his first and second over brought order to play and allowed the out field to relax.
120/7 with 11 overs to go seemed a chase to far but to be fair to the oppo they continued to push on, before Shaneo produced some variety to the bowling attack, wicket in his 3rd and 4th over brought the chase to a stand still and Saranjeet made sure in his final overs only allowing 6 runs off 18 balls.
Aldenham closed in on the win by 37 runs with a solid performance! Saranjeet deservedly picked up the MoM. Another well earned beer at the par for the lads and a chance for B Letts to discuss the Aussie ‘footy’ Rules with Haydos.
