There was still a distinct smell of black sambuca on the breath of some parishioners as they took to the field first against a Boffins side that had been lent a fine trio of Barot, OJB and YJB. Despite this, a strong opening spell from Slick Vik and Ammo kept the batting side in check and although there was some acceleration against the spin it always felt like the Boffins were struggling to post a par score on what is a fast-scoring ground. Towards the end, DKD was given a bowl – this was not good captaincy. James Bazeley accelerated for the opposition and struck an important 50* - losing several balls in the river. Perhaps some of these could have been found but there seemed to be a lack of energy towards the end of the innings with members of the touring side being heard to remark that this felt like “the longest 35 overs ever.” The Boffins were eventually bowled out for 213.

The OMOA was in a particularly belligerent mood and left no one in any doubt about his desire to win the game by loudly proclaiming “failure is not an option” every 90 seconds. The Chairman and Char opened the batting and SDL was able to banish concerns about a lack of form to swat his way to 29. This brought S444cho to the crease who displayed some displeasure with the repeated demands from the crowd to “get on with it” and “hit the ball” as the required run-rate began to rise. The pressure told and Sachin took a risky single to leave Charlie far short of his ground – backing up next time please. The OMOA was not impressed and was beginning to worry about the result, going as far to suggest to skipper of the day Barry Letts that he needed to rethink the batting order. Not what Mikey Ward and AJ wanted to hear as they strode out to the crease at no.4 and no.5 respectively.

Fortunately, it had all been carefully planned and DKD and Amit were more than capable of powering ACC home with an over and a half to spare. NEVER IN DOUBT, FPW.
