Wheathampstead II v Aldenham Cricket Club on Sat 19 Jun 2021 at 12:00
Aldenham Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets
Match report
After majority of ACC players had played the early rain card the night before spending most of their night singing ‘It’s coming home’…….is it? and based on advise from Leighton buzzards weather expert J Knight who had called the game off from the Old post office on Tue to everyone’s surprise….Game was on!!!!!
Last min BYOT’s being prepared ,not many had showered as why shower when we could be swimming playing cricket, rumours that captain sidehat had woken up in the pub the morning of the game with several messages of is it still on? Majority of ACC heroes arrived late at Wheathempsted CC. Raj C arrived along with Ebay/Sach and was still debating to why there are no shops on the M1 for him to get a meal deal and the guy driving next to us on the M1 was Robin Russell. It wasn’t…………
Fielding first with two of ACC’s premier bowlers the Liverpool lip and Timothy Gilbert bowled very well to keep WHCC down to approx 25 off first 10 overs. Skilful bowling from Char taking the first wicket off his 29th slower bowl ,Timothy was not going to hold back and bowled an absolute beauty which swinged and took top of off to get rid off their number 3 for a duck - Very Jimmy A. Some whispers about could Timothy still end up playing for England after that ball but those whispers went back to bed quickly when Timothy was involved in a fairly straightforward catch but decided to mark a spot on the ground and dive in that spot whilst ball is still up in the air and then hope the catch will come to him in that spot- of course it fell short.
WHCC cruising fairly slowly in choppy waters at this point with their opener still in on 24 off 27 overs WHCC were on 85 -3 or so . Two fairly tough chances down by Jack Grealish lookalike Pichy but he made up for it with a run out involving Captain Sidehat and a regulation catch behind the stumps. Unfortunately another absolute sitter down for DK to make it his 5th consecutive catch dropped. To be fair on DK scientist did say if you are double jabbed you can’t ‘catch’ anything- Vaccine works!!
After low key spells with no wickets for Dicky D and Chris Munroe , Ubaid K came on and bowled very well to take 3 wickets to get rid of WHCC middle order and this was well supported by Raj who also managed to take a wicket. Char and Timothy finished if off for ACC with a further wicket each and WHCC finished at 141-9 off 45 overs
ACC opened with S Letts and S Sanghvi. With chairman’s cup of tea being prepared by his apprentice DK in case it’s a another duck, a loud cheer from the pavilion as S Letts swiftly got off the mark this time. Unfortunately this did not last long as S Letts got bowled soon after for 5. DK in looked promising with his footwork as always but managed to get bowled after leaving a top of ball for 8. Sach taking the traditional Test match approach survived some consistent short pitch deliveries by WHCC opening bowler who bowled 9 consecutive overs. Pichy S had calm things down for ACC with his presence at the crease and had a decent partnership with Sach to get pass majority of the run chase. After a lot of dancing on the pitch Sach ran out of dance moves and eventually got bowled for 45. In came Andy J who was mindful not to miss Germany vs Portugal games corner kick so was quick in and out for 1 back in time to see that corner kick.
Peachy cruised ACC to a mighty win with some lusty blows ending up on 54 not out along with Timothy who was 11 not out in the end.
