Match report Aldenham CC vs Luton Town & Indians IV

After a rather miserable and wet Friday at the Parish and for most of the country. We are wakened by a rather spritely Chris Munroe pitch inspection vlog. The pitch is damp he exclaims…shocker (probably not a batting surface…). However, after the work Pete and Vintage had done during the week (along with the mid-week rollers), the wicket had stayed firm and thankfully playable. Game is ON!!

We begin rocking up at the home of cricket, just as Burns continues his incredible innings at the other home of cricket. However, no one knew what was coming later this day, apart from the man himself of course. Parishioners continue to arrive, with the late comers being Ammo and non-other than Kuzza. We gear up for a warmup led by our very own vice-skipper Levers, while skipper side hat tosses up on the square. As a team we do a quick lap of the pitch, including various stretches ‘shoo the chickens!’ We arrive back, looking all keen and ready to field… “We’re batting”. Immediately half the team sit down relax and prepare for a show. A show no one could have predicted.

Ebay.co.uk and skip Chrissy Munroe open up, on what had turned out to be a gorgeous sunny day at the parish. The opening pair start well, against a reasonable bowling attack (consisting of a decent right-arm seamer and a couple of spinners). CM hits some lovely shots back over each of these bowlers’ heads… pretty standard start to the innings. Most can be seen on the Aldenham Instagram @aldenhamcricketclub LIKE and FOLLOW for all the exclusive content (You’re welcome Levers).

Chrissy swiftly makes his way to 50, with a strong opening partnership with Ebay of 54. Soon after, The PIMP gives Ebay.co.uk out stumped with a trigger of a finger (practice makes perfect). DANK at 3 arrives at the crease. CM and DK push on, increasing the run rate once again. CM enters the nervy 90’s, edging closer to the ton. BANG! Another huge 6 to take him to 100…pavilion erupts, but no one knows what is yet to come. Karan Barot enjoying his snooze in the shade, eagerly waiting to get out to bat and attempt to take the limelight from Chrissy. Claiming he could hit a ton in 46 balls (would love to witness that!). He gets his chance when DK is stumped, after the ball ricochets off the keeper’s pads…DK being clueless stood for a brief moment, staring at leg umpire Dicky D, who seemed as clueless as him, but finally giving him out. Well batted DK.

Out comes Kuzza ready to batter the bowlers round the park. CM and Mr. Barot continue to rack up the score, hitting some lovely shots as they do so. Chrissy brushes past the 150 mark… Is there more to come? Whispers back at the pavilion begin to mention the chances of a double ton…could it really happen? Only one man knows the answer to that. Kuz is the next man to go, getting bowled. Well batted Kuz. CM sees another man enter, while he continues to pursue this record-breaking score.

AJ enters the game. CM continues to smash 6 after 6. Then suddenly he’s on 197*, DK claiming that he has entered the “nervy 190’s” something that is not often said at the parish. Dot bowl. Everyone waiting, cameras at the ready! BANG!! Shot Chrissy!! 6 goes blasting past the pavilion. Chrissy Munroe has done it. The pavilion explodes with noise. That was special. What an unbelievable knock CM, well batted. #wherewereyouwhenchrissyhitadoubleton. CM then gets caught on the boundary, but he hadn’t a care in the world, walking back to the pavilion proudly with everyone clapping and congratulating him. 207 off 126 balls (16 4’s, 14 6’s). A score that is going to be hard to beat. Itty arrives at the crease with AJ, hits big and then bowled. Then Ammo’s turn to join AJ. Welcome back to the parish, hitting a massive 6 then also getting bowled. Levers and AJ finishing the innings. ACC finishing on a humungous score of 311 off the 45 overs. Game must be in the bag?

Time for tea!

We head out to field with Levers opening up at the top end. Hitting the wickets in his first over. Great start for the A’s. The PIMP running up the hill, not quite finding his rhythm or the top of off. Levers strikes again! Is a visit from Michelle on the cards?? Surely the MOTM has got to be CM. “If you get 10 wickets then maybe you’re in the running” states the skipper. Ammo on his return to the parish replaces Levers at the top end and with his roaring pace gets an early wicket. Raj replaces the PIMP running up the hill, welcome back RajBaby!!

The overs tick on, with multiple wickets from Raj and catches from Kuzza, AJ and Itty. Michelle is prepared to pay a visit to RajBaby!! Raj runs in to bowl, already with 4 wickets under the belt, the batsman swings, snicks it to second slip and it’s caught by the man he’s paying! The pitch erupts for the second time of the day. What a spell Raj!! The final wicket coming for Rich, a quick stumping from Itty finishes the game. A great win for the A’s, but mainly thanks to Chrissy Munroe the Record Breaker and Raj the Pfeiffer Slayer.
