Aldenham Cricket Club Won by 98 runs

Match report Another beautiful day @ the Parish, ideal for a dose of friendly Cricket. We should’ve been playing Bushey away, however a home fixture was hastily arranged by the Pony I believe. ASC had arranged some activities on the outfield thinking we were away but luckily they were just about over before the game commenced. Cpt Letts opted? To bat & sent in Ebay & the in form Itty to open proceedings & as Is his way, Itty got straight into it. Falling short of this years’ elusive 50 by just the 4 this time. I joined Ebay & we carried on pretty much where we left off last week, lots of singles & the occasional 4, keeping the run rate reasonably healthy. A rush of blood to the head getting Ebay stumped after another solid performance for 29. The bowling attack continued to show promise, if somewhat inconsistent as Matt B joined me. As is often the case, the break in concentration that is the drinks break meant I was soon back in the hutch for 33 & out strode Andy J, one of a slew of new players this year with an eagerness to get to grips with this trad malarkey! Improving every game but gone for 2. Enter the Rustler with an altogether different problem, he’d forgotten his contact lenses & was fretting about being able to focus, didn’t bother him too much as he creamed a shot to the boundary. As Robin departed missing a straight one LBW & Matt’s sprightly 30 came to an end, we expected some fireworks. Time was running out on our 40 overs as Dan & the Cpt entered the fray. Damp squib as neither got going, at least they didn’t dawdle, Baz still just short of his 5000 runs for the club! James B & Shakey both entertained briefly with some big shots but got themselves out & we were all out 2 balls short of the 40 for 203.
Andy J made his biggest contribution to this game (with the help of Katy M I’m sure) with an excellent Tea, Pasta, Cous Cous…. Maybe a few more cakes next time?
Back into the fray, today a little cooler than last weekend thanks to a slight breeze but sweaty nonetheless, James B & Baz opening the bowling. Good to see both on decent form, James getting it to swing in & Baz’s accuracy much improved to go with his hot pace. Both took early wickets but then we had a period where the 2 Asian batsmen started to get to grips with James & Dan, not scoring fast but frequently finding a big shot. Just as we started to toil a bit Baz changed things once again bringing on Dickey D & Shakey. Initially Shakey wasn’t having joy but it wall changed thanks to that all too rare thing in recent years, an inspired piece of fielding by … well, me. The big hitting Quamar got forced to play a different shot & as the ball sailed toward the boundary I managed to pluck it one handed out of the air diving to my left, much celebration ensued & the over from Shakey, went stratospheric as he had a guy called LBW then arguably an even better catch low @ Slip by Jimbo saw 3 wkts in 1 over. How could things get better from there? Enter Dickey D & the not to be outdone by his youngster, Matt. 4 wickets in short order (2 caught by Matt) left the game all but over. Some stout backs to the wall resistance by the experienced spinner & the oppo Cpt delayed the inevitable until Baz bought himself back on to demolish the Cpt’s stumps. Done & dusted in 29 overs.

An entirely predictable late cameo for the team as we watched Chewitt arrive just as the match finished HA! Another little aside, Wardy has been doing a marvellous job of filling in the ACC match histories & we are almost back to 2002. Something I’ve picked up recently is this. Of the regular players it would appear to me that apart from the occasional game for me & @ the other end of the history Jegs, Dan Morgan is now the only player now playing, who played in the previous millennium! Chris/Chewy/Charlie, am I correct?
