Match report
Aldenham v Brentham- Saturday 30th September
WHERE’S DICKY?
The A’s arrived at the parish for the penultimate game of the season with high hopes of a good game against P Diddy’s Brentham side. With a strong team of 10, waiting for Dicky to arrive, Captain Slaque won the toss and choose to field with the sole idea of winning present in his mind.
The soon to be overseas player Matt Parkins opened the bowling from down the hill whilst Leavers was granted the other end. Both bowled well, however neither could remove one of the opening batsmen. The game was filled with drops throughout, however the star dropper was Kuldip from Abbots who managed to drop 3 in the first quarter of the match all at gulley, was he Lee Burrows in disguise? The opening bowlers had finished their spells, Hale 7-1-31-0 and Parkins 10.1-2-45-3, and Dicky had still not arrived despite continuous phone calls from Minty. Had he forgotten the way to the Parish?? The Sheikh, who was suffering from a training injury courtesy of EBAY, and Chrissy Munroe were the next bowlers to work their magic, both getting wickets with figures of 8-1-38-2 and 11-0-56-2 respectively. Drinks were taken at 21 overs yet Dicky had still not arrived although Don Bickley was at the sidelines ready to fill the gap, a like for like replacement perhaps. However, a flustered Dicky was finally seen already in his whites at about 1:50, where he claimed that he didn’t know he was playing as he didn’t read the second email? With all our side in whites and on the pitch most people would assume that we were fielding, not Dicky however as he had to ask Sachin whether we were batting or not. After a few overs in the field Dicky was working his magic with the ball. Although it wasn’t Dicky’s best bowling at the Parish he was able to get rid of danger man P Diddy for a first baller which led to his figures of 3-0-28-2. A late spell from Kuzza which included 5 full tosses with a couple being carted into the trees saw him get figures of 2-0-18-0. Matt Parkins returned down the hill and was able to finish off the strong Brentham side and take the A’s into a much needed tea break.
The tea was a wonderful spread by professional chef minty, which included some top notch seedless grapes which definitely took my liking. After over indulging on the fruit it was time for the Parish to chase down the total.
TV star Sanghvi and Internet superstar EBay opened up, with a Go-Pro set up on the side lines for post match analysis. The odds of a run out were high with many thinking back to the famous Chipperfield match. EBay was first to go after popping one up to mid wicket for 6, with Kuldip and Dan Knight falling quickly after for 0 and 3 respectively. Captain Slaque was also back in the club house quickly after scoring 6, meaning that property tycoon K Barot was sent to the wicket. Both were able to make 38 before both falling in quick succession, with no run out surprisingly. This meant highest run scorer Chris Munroe and Matt Parkins were brought to the crease, with Timmy Hale padded up eager to come in and win the game for the A’s. The pair, known for their ability to score big runs and fast, dispatched the Brentham bowlers all over the field. Parkins was the most impressive out of the two as he hit three sixes into the corn fields in successive balls, with calls from the pavilion to whether he actually had another shot, was the Pony just jealous? The game was won with 11 overs to spare with Chris finishing on 33* and Matt on 92*.
What a way to end the season, a 450 run thriller. See you all at the DD.
