Match report Good day everyone – a quick precis of Sunday’s game.

After the Frogmore no show and a quick flirtation with old Hasberdashers our beloved fixture secretary managed to rustle up a game against Black Rose of Highgate CC who won the toss and elected to field - which given the overnight rain and a very green pitch this looked like the right call.

The Pirate and Chairman opened the innings and worked steadily towards a 50 partnership in under an hour – rapid batting you may think but this was off 24 overs! Black Rose appeared to be on a mission to bowl as many overs as possible – opening with two spinners and then following this with further spinners and - by my reckoning - of the 8 bowlers used to bowl 53 overs only one came off more than six paces! Of particular note was two young lads who both bowled spin with confidence and skill.

The Pirate eventually fell for 18 followed by the Chairman for 51, Tan for 51 and Sach “Jug avoidance” for 48, leaving ACC well placed for some quick fire hitting from Josh, Matt and Dan Knight giving ACC 209 for 7 off 53 overs with a declaration 15 minutes before the scheduled tea!

Following a splendid tea from the Brigadier, Black Rose opened their reply and lost a wicket in the second over to James Bazeley following a great catch from Dickie D. The next wicket didn’t fall until the 12th over off Charlie Munroe with a catch at gully for Matt. Four of the next five batsmen all looked very competent – scoring 56, 31, 27 and 17 and as we got in to the last 20 overs of the game with 100 required the match was finely poised, with Dan Knight getting a key wicket of the number four batsman just before drinks. The steady fall of wickets though slowed Black Rose progress and in the end they shut up shop with four overs to go some 40 runs short with three wickets intact. The highlight of the wickets was the father and son combination of bowler James Bazeley and Matt Bazeley, with a stunning catch at mid-wicket. Dickie D was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets, including the big hitting skipper who holed out at cow to Chris Munroe having put a ball in to the back yard of the house on the corner of the car park two balls earlier.

The last couple of overs petered out without incident after what had been a very entertaining game – played in a good spirit against an oppo we would certainly welcome back on another occasion (closing score 179 for 7 off 44 overs).

ACC then retired to the club for a BBQ to wish Katie Munroe a fond farewell as she embarks on her tour of Germany.
