Aldenham Cricket Club v Hollybush on Sun 14 Aug 2016 at 1330
Aldenham Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets
Match report
Aldenham CC v Hollybush CC
Sunday 14th August 2016
Friendly - Timed Game
HCC won toss & elected to bat
ACC win by 4 wickets
Hollybush CC 141 all out (9 men); Tim Hale 9-0-44-3, Joss Lowery (debut) 5-2-7-1
Aldenham CC 143-6; Lee Burrows 33, Tan Watfa 25 (or was it 29..) not out
Having heard the much lauded Aldenham legend that is Steve 'The Bear' Rees's name mentioned at many points during Sundays game in reference to Barry 'Camembert' Letts bowling spell, I have decided to channel my inner Bear and take inspiration from his legendary player ratings match report...
...in batting order:
Lee Burrows (8) - ever solid and dependable at the top of the order, marshalled his inexperienced opening partner Wardy well whilst taking the 'towel head' based abuse in his stride. Would have been a (9) if he hadn't fielded for the opposition in his ludicrously gerish luminous blue and yellow t-shirt.
Michael Ward (7) - overlooked as a bowling option for much of the Hollybush innings by a captain Chewett that insisted there was still 'at least an hour' of play left when the oppo were 6 down, not realising they only had 9 men. Tidy 3 over spell and a wicket, and then promoted to open with Lee. Unfurlled the shot of the day with a cover drive for 4, however Wardy's limited batting technique took over and a snick behind resulted in his departure for 14. Marked up for some 'fine' ground fielding.
Colin Hewett (6) - Only 2 balls required for Colin to finish off the Hollybush innings, and looked good for his 4 before being triggered by new boy Joss, welcome to the club.
Chris Munroe (6) - not required with the ball however an outstanding catch off Wardy at slip. Bashed two big sixes before getting a shooter from the big lad which barely went 2 inches off the ground, trapped in front of middle and leg. Notable appearance for Chrissy's new facial hair, very Matt Prior.
Tan Watfa (8) - turned up at 13.45 for a 13.30 start along with a bedraggled Levers, having realised when awaking around 13.00 that his car was still at the club and had to get a cab! Some decent diving at gully produced a few gags from the beer monster, but once Watfa got out to bat he looked his usual serene and calm self. A good 25* to finish the game, your reporter gives an extra point to Watfa for robbing him of a 4 whilst umpiring. Sorry Tan.
Itty Haque (7) - uneventful wicket-keeping performance which is usually a good sign. Looked good with the bat however is to blame for 'Cargate' after hitting a VW Golf behind the bowlers arm with a big hit. After inspecting his damaged car, the Social Club regular was then abused by the bowler for parking his car there, god forbid he would park his car in a car park! I will leave out the expletives.
Danny Morgan (7) - volatile and accurate bowling performance from the big man, unlucky to not get more than his one wicket having had a couple of sure fire appeals turned down. Marked down for his brief stay with the bat.
Joss Lowery (8) - the debutant with the luxurious beard made quite the impression, despite his Steve Harmison like first delivery. Excellent nibble from down the hill, produced a few pearlers before picking up a wicket clean bowled. Bludgeoned his way to a good 16* and hit the winning runs. Not available next week.
Tim Hale (8) - miraculous performance considering Tim's performances on Whatsapp, and after Watfa found him planking on his sofa about half an hour before play. Kept up his excellent wicket taking season with another 3 wickets in between some wide stuff. Joint MoM with Barry.
Barry Letts *DREAM TEAM STAR MAN* (8) - Barry this season has re-invented himself as an excellent fast bowler and lower order hitter, and the ball of the day was without doubt his big, late swinging yorker which beat the opener all ends up. Brie-lliant performance from the master of the cheese board.
Chris Hewett (7) - only managed 5 overs due to a side strain, but marshalled his troops well despite some lapses in concentration. Gave everyone a game, so you cannot ask fairer than that.
