Aldenham Cricket Club v Headstone St. George's on Sun 26 Jun 2016 at 1400
Aldenham Cricket Club Won by 193 runs
Match report
Following on from the disappointment of the cancelled top of the table clash against Potten End, Aldenham faced Headstone St. George. A few of the A's were feeling slightly sorry for themselves following a night spent with Lever's long limbs liberating libations liberally.
Skipper Char won the toss and elected to bat, which meant he and Watfa padded up and went in to bat. Both managed to get their heads down and put on a partnership of 156 for the first wicket as Watfa eventually holed out in the deep for 82.
This brought Dan 'Only bats on Sunday's :'(' Knight to the crease, who spent some time struggling to find the boundary. In the meantime, skipper Char strolled to his second century of the season before declaring himself retired, bringing The Pirate to the crease. Lee tried to up the rate but was caught after a short stay for 5.
Fellow Parmiterian Joe Hensman then joined Dan who, sensing an imminent declaration, flew out of the blocks firing 5 fours and powering his way to a fifty. Joe, despite his protestation that it didn't count, was run out on the last ball before the declaration.
Having agreed to use a new ball per innings, the skipper then elected to open with seam and spin, with Hewett coming down the hill and Chris 'Peter' Munroe coming up.
Peter was finding some prodigious turn on a track that lapped up spin like Lever's finding an unattended half empty pint of Guinness and soon found himself making the early breakthroughs.
Dan Morgan was brought on from the top produced a devastating spell, claiming 4-13 off his 7 overs which left Headstone St. George with little other option than to shut up shop and pray for rain, proving great relief to Wardy's economy rate but not so much his bowling average as his 7 only went for 8 runs.
Dicky and Chewett then mopped up the tail with about 10 overs left in the day, leaving the A's to head back to the bar to enjoy some Orange Juice and Lemonade's and reflect on a 193 run victory.
