Hadley Wood Green v Aldenham Cricket Club Aldenham Cricket Club on Sun 19 Jun 2016 at 1300
Match was Drawn

Match report Spirits were high after a massive win at the home of cricket the previous day, which led to the skipper and Levers getting to Botany Bay cricket club an hour early to get good usage of the newly bedded £75,000 nets. The day started badly for Joe ‘the Henchman’ Hensman, who, after eagerly padding up received a jaffa of a outswinging Yorker from Dan Knight (releasing that pent-up anger from the previous day?) which hit the henchman square on the toe and bending his big toe nail in half. After the net, the A’s congregated by the pavilion with high hopes of playing on the Botany Bay main pitch, things were looking promising as the flags were being placed around the ground. The dream of playing on the main pitch was soon demolished as we were escorted across the road.

Charlie won the toss and opted to bat. After not getting a game on the Saturday D. Knight was given the opportunity to open with S. Letts, but quickly declined leaving SDL partnerless at the top of the order until T. Watfa stepped up. Both openers started strongly, especially Watfa, who powered his way to 26 off 15 balls before batting like he was stuck in treacle and not scoring for the next 18 deliveries. SDL worked his way to 30 off 53 deliveries before being caught in the covers, and was soon followed by watfa being caught in the deep for 43, creating a solid platform for the innings.
At the crease was the two Parmiters boys, albeit one with half a toe and only one shoulder. The Henchman played his characteristic swish and was bowled for 4. This brought Itty to the crease who battered his way to 68 off 40 with some massive trademark sixes. At the other end D. Knight was undone by some wily bowling, who else would think to bowl a double bounce Yorker? Dan certainly wasn’t expecting it. The innings closed with Robin and Levers with 19* and 9* respectively, leaving the A’s on 219-5.

The A’s then wondered back over the road to watch some quality premier league cricket whilst eating their tea and some lovely velvet cake.

After setting the field with everyone waiting to get the second innings underway, the A’s were left waiting for the oppo and umpires to take to the field. Once everyone was in place chewy was keen to open and use his newly found ‘knuckle ball’, which gave the russler a whole world of trouble during his throw downs. After throwing a few ‘knucklers’ down (giving big mike all sorts of troubles) he finished his spell with one wicket, at the other end Char was having no such luck, with the pitch having no life. Due to Itty battering the ball out of shape there was no swing or seam movement for the medium-fast bowlers. Spin to win it is.

Chris Munroe replaced younger brother to bowl one of his best spells of his life. Ripping, dipping and using all his flight and guile to claim 14-7-12-6. Dr. Fiver was calling, and Chrissy answered magnificently to receive his medication of wickets. Dickie D toiled his way through 6 overs to claim a wicket. The day ended with the A’s trying to get that last wicket, but to no prevail the game was ended in a (winning) draw. Hadley Wood 121-9.

MOTM: Chrissy Munroe for his excellent display of leg spin bowling

Special mention to Itty Haque for some lightning work behind the stumps and to the russler a.k.a. the octopus/levers v2.0/Mr. Tickle for another outstanding catch, if only you could catch the easy ones!
