Match report
Aldenham vs Boxmoor IV
Saturday 11th June 2016
League - Timed
ACC won toss and elected to field
A dank and dreary morning did not bode well for a completed fixture on Saturday. One particular downpour on the M25 on the way to the game for your reporter was reminiscent of Armageddon, minus the asteroids of course...however the gods were kind and we started on time.
Frostie for the last 5 years has had something of an identity crisis, struggling to find his true calling in the Aldenham badge, which has led to him questioning other things, such as his gender and sexuality. Luckily Saturday granted him a chance to explore his inner self, as he was thrusted in to the gloves and a sure fire roasting from Mr Chakrawarti.
Nic won the toss and elected to field, obviously feeling ruthless and in rather cheery mood after England's result that morning down under. Tim and Ammo opened up, and Tim reap rewards for bowling straight in the very first over, removing the father of a father son duo of openers via a plum lbw decision as the opener did a Dougie Trail style lunge. Ammo then removed the 13 year old son soon after, having the ball before softened him up with a beamer, with a perfect yorker. Frostie meanwhile was coping admirably with the pace of both opening bowlers, although at times resembled more volleyball star than cricketer.
Tim and Ammo could not extract any further dismissals as 3 & 4 tightened things up, and Nic turned to himself from the top and Wardy from the bottom end. Immediately the change reaper rewards, as Wardy managed to get one to turn down the hill, found the gap and dislodged the leg bail. Wardy then followed this up with the dismissal over the left handed number 4, caught spectacularly at a very silly mid off by a concerned and tumbling Watfa, who was less than enamored with the decision to put him there.
Number 6 soon followed, holing out to Tim at deep mid wicket again off Wardy. Some resistance from the oppo skipper, who finished the innings not out, and the 13 year old number 7, led to Wardy being removed after a 10 over spell. Minty was brought on and once again proved to be an inspired change, as he bowled the kid in his first over. Next ball he was again celebrating, having done copious amounts of buttering that morning, as next man in plopped up a catch to Tim again at silly mid on. The hat trick ball was a non event, pushed down the leg side. The number 9 hit some lusty blows, but again holed out to deep mid wicket.
Nic then took the decision to bring back Tim and Ammo for the end overs, and Tim picked up another wicket, caught sharply by S444CHO in the covers. The number 11 saw out the last two balls of the innings, and that was tea.
Boxmoor 99-9 off 41 overs, Wardy 10-2-17-3, Chris M 3-0-22-3
A spectacular arrangement of cricket ball macaroons and jerk chicken wraps (spicier on the way in than the way out luckily) was enjoyed by all.
The Chairman and S444CHO opened up the retort. Captain Birdseye bowled well from the bottom end, extracting some away movement, and the 13 year old opening bat also opened the bowling. Simon and Sach started well, ticking over the strike with the odd boundary, however Sachin then middled one to the keeper and refused to walk, however Nic sent him packing back to the pavilion.
Watfa then joined Simon, and his first ball which he middled to the mid wicket boundary was a sign of things to come. Tanio dismantled the mixture of young and old attack, plundering 8 fours and 2 sixes on his way to a majestic 52 not out, Simon ably supporting with a solid 30 not out, as the target was reached in 17.3 overs.
Aldenham 104-1 off 17.3 overs, Watfa 52*, Simon 30*
