Aldenham Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets
Match report
Timed Game
ACC won the toss, and elected to bowl first
3rd to last game of the season, and regular opponents Coopers arrived at the home of cricket with a less than regular line-up.
Chewett won the toss and elected to bowl first, which did not please the exceptionally hung over Watfa, still suffering from his previous evening spent concocting a yarn about Dan Wells supposed failing attempts to gain a wife (she did actually say yes), and also trying to keep Sheep's hand off his own missus!
Danny Morgan and Tim Hale opened up. Danny's first over down the hill saw the ball being sprayed around a touch, Tim started more accurately. The first wicket fell with the diminutive opener dabbing a simple chance to Watfa at first slip off of Tim...oh wait sorry no it was a bump ball, well at least that was what the umpire, the batsman and Chris 'wickets are over-rated' Hewett decided on after much deliberation. The actual breakthrough wasn't far away as Tim trapped the other opener in front with a yorker on the toes.
Two further wickets fell as Danny found more accuracy round the wicket, and up-rooted off stump of the no.3. Tim the picked up the other opener via a smart catch at square leg by the chairman.
What then followed was a period of play that seemed to suck all the life out of the ACC attack, as the South African (don't mention Japan...) no.4 and Jamie Wallis at 5 cultivated an excellent partnership.
Tim and Danny were replaced by Wardy and The Henchman. Jamie nudged and nurdled around, whilst the no.4 launched in to anything in his own half, 6's peppering the trees. Wardy tried to set the trap however the ball kept sailing over the fielders on the boundary. Joe was guilty of being too short at times, but beat the bat on many an occasion.
Chewett replaced Wardy at the bottom end, and he too got some treatment, but managed to get rid of Wallis by serving up a customary over-pitched delivery to the no.4 which he then pummeled straight back at the non-striker, hitting him square on the forearm. Jamie had to retire hurt on 37.
Dicky had a couple of over at the other end before succumbing to a nose-bleed, so Karan came on for a tweek. Karan picked up two wickets bowling straight, however the no.4 carried his bat and reached a well deserved hundred.
Coopers 204 for 5, Tim 2-23, Karan 2-10
A Dicky D tea was well received, and the chase was on.
Simon and Dan K opened the innings. The guy that got a hundred opened the bowling, bowling some slow and low away swingers. He then decided to go round the wicket. What followed was a little unsavoury, as a discussion regarding lbw appeals and bowling right arm round to right handers ensued between bowler and Wardy umpiring. Needless to say both could have handled the situation better, but all was forgotten on a hand shake, and the game continued.
Dan K was bowled chopping on for 3, and Simon was also bowled with one that came back up the hill for 23 with the score on 39.
Karan and Watfa were together at the wicket, and it was to turn out that no further batsmen were required, as a partnership of 166 took ACC over the line.
Both batsmen accumulated runs at the beginning of their innings, Karan customarily flamboyant once he had got in. Karan was to pass 50 first, with Watfa well placed on 47.
Karan then proceeded to farm the strike in search of his first ton of the season in weekend cricket, and when Watfa did get on strike he had lost all rhythm that got him to 47 in the first place. Karan went from 50 to 100 without Watfa contributing another run, in an extreme display of hitting and single-mindedness. One particular over saw Karan hit 5 4s in a row, and then a single off the last ball to keep the strike!
Watfa was then allowed to pass 50 once Karan got his milestone, and the A's got over the line with another 6 from Barot.
ACC 205 for 2, Karan 111*, Watfa 53*
