New Calypsonians v Aldenham Cricket Club 1st XI on Sun 09 Aug 2015 at 1400
Aldenham Cricket Club Won by 3 wickets
Match report
Though the majority of us arrive in plenty of time for an away fixture, a trip to New Calypsonians is rather more relaxed and rarely starts at the arranged time. Accident on the M25 meant an arrival just 10 minutes before the start. The only Parishonners to beat me there were Amit and the Birthday Boy, Karan "W" Barot. The Skip was running late due to a self inflicted stomach bug so Chew won the toss, and following instruction elected to field. A 35 over match was the course of the day.
Aldenham took the field minus The Copywriter! Dickie had elected to revisit Worlds End Lane via reading his London A to Z, and without a Satnav. A man who has relaunched Natural Homeclean and Superb Chauffeurs "Just remember you can tell him where to go!" new Company Websites to devastating effect really needs to invest in the latest travel technology. Amit and Chewitt opened the bowling and both bowled well against the Openers which included Bobby who had his mind at The Emirates. Char removed Kuzza from the slips after 1 over due to some bizarre squealing??Wicket less after 8 overs James B & Char were introduced to the attack and wickets arrived straight away!
A bizarre 2 - 7 field was set for Bobby and he succumbed to the trap caught by Chew. 3 wickets then followed for James which had the Oppo reeling at 46 for 4. The introduction of Bird to the crease added momentum to the innings and he top scored with 37. Good to see Mayuren "Maureen" Bala back in an Aldenham shirt and a 3 over spell was rewarded with a wicket. Dickie received some treatment for anything short but was able to get his wicket. 2 wickets for Jerry included second top scorer Atherley for 31, deceived by the only one that turned. This wicket again bringing Jerry to the top of the ACC averages. Some lusty blows from a returning to fitness Vince Farley ensured a competitive total was set.
Overall a much improved performance in the field despite several Parishonners the worse for wear following the night at the W Hotel. Basic fielding tuition was given out to Sach throughout the innings and arrangements are being made to attend one of Jerry's Winter Junior Indoor Training sessions. 5 over throws off the last ball of the innings, would this be regretted??
New Calypsonians 172 for 9
A fantastic Carribean tea included the famous Meat Paste and Onion sandwiches and plenty of fresh pineapple. Char arranged the order! Where would you like to bat Kuzza? I am a number 4 Char! However following what appears to be instruction from home Kuzza needed to get in earlier than that and number 3 was requested. Sach obliged even further and chopped on for 4 after 3 balls bringing Kuzza to the wicket to join Aldenham's Greatest ever Batsmen, Barry Letts! Surely a 9 wicket victory was on the cards?
Bird and Larry bowled though both Barry and Kuzza were looking comfortable. However Kuzza creamed a lofted drive towards Bobby and unbelievably he dived full length to snare the Birthday Boy for just 6. What followed was delirium in the New Calypsonians ranks, even the game of domino's was aborted by the onlookers as everyone swamped Bobby. What followed by Kuzza though was a hasty exit from the ground without saying goodbye. The last time this was witnessed was 15 years ago when Vic "Don't treat me like a dog" Khanna left ACC and requested me to forward his box in a Jiffy bag??
Club disciplinary rules for this absent behaviour has seen previous Parishonners fined up to a thousand pounds??
Chewy eventually reached the crease with the score on 28 for 2, time for some innings impetus? No! Chewy crawled to 12 off 50 balls, not what was required in a 35 over game and finally we were all put out of our misery. Barry batted well, one fantastic 6 but then fell for 41. Mayuren added 19 and Itty after missing his first 15 deliveries started edging to all corners and top scored with 46. Amit went first ball foolishly taking on Vince Farley's arm.
30 required with Char and James at the wicket with Jerry and Dicky in the hutch. Some great batting ensured not only the victory but the non requirement of the elder statesmen to cone to the crease. Char finished unbeaten on 20 and MOM James 12. A great game of Friendly Cricket that literally had everything including the free Stella courtesy of Earl Grillet. If we had Cricket like this on a Saturday there would be no discussion regarding other possibilities.
