Match report Botany Bay CC was the venue for another famous encounter against Hadley Wood Cricket Club. An area better known for its richness of Garden Centres but not for places to buy Cigarettes. On the main square was a very competitive game taking place so we were on the 2nd pitch over the busy B road to Crews Hill. In the 2nd pitch hut Char offered batting slots like numbers from a Chinese Menu.

Number 1 , Dan M and Number 2 Munners padded up as Char had lost the toss and batted first. The first hour was sheer destruction as both openers launched the ball to all quarters. One six hitting the roof of a moving 4 x 4 on the Crews Hill road. The blue metallic paint becoming a feature wall effect on the match ball! Dan perished for 43 bringing Sach to the wicket. Chris's 100 arrived with the score on 177. A blistering knock with several drops included. The 3rd ACC ton in a week bought a personal declaration and introduced Dickie "Wake Bowler" Doughty to the crease.

Despite being advised of the likely declaration Dickie appeared to forget this and thus was rather unprepared for his normal swashbuckling innings. What followed was 10 minutes of failure to pierce the ring and thus Dickie was snared for a duck. To the wicket came Karan Barot fresh from his midweek heroics. A very quick 46 from him, together with a dab fest 22 from Sach Featurewall bought Aldenham over the 200.

Lower order runs were also on the menu as Nish returned to the team with 6, Jerry weighed in with his first innings of the season with 11 and Chewitt finally made runs with 18. That just left the 2 GCSE free Parmiterians, Joe and Dan K to finish the innings unbeaten.

ACC 263 for 7

After an okay tea in a very dark clubhouse ACC took to the field looking for 10 wickets. Luckily Pete "We are a chasing team" Munroe was not viewing with negative thoughts as Scam had an afternoon appointment in Plaistow??

Char decided to attack Hadley Wood with 10 fielders + an all innings chance less , falling in instalments short leg?? Char bowled Mike for 1 which bought Hadley's own Grant Elliott to the wicket. He and "The keen one" batted reasonably comfortably for the next hour and a half and both reached 50's. One horrific piece of "I didn't hit , I gloved it" though was a blight on the keen one's knock. That also meant that Dan K was denied a wicket from his very tidy 7 over spell. Jim the Umpire was likened to a not to be mentioned Limited over ACC umpire.

Spells from Chewy and Joe Henchman went un rewarded and 20 overs were reached with 9 wickets still required. It didn't look like it was going to be our day after 3 drops from Char and a blatant padded up LBW wasn't given for Karan.

Turning point came with 15 overs remaining when a Sach / Dan K run out made the breakthrough. Another run out courtesy of Joe H / Jerry and then a gaggle of spinners wickets bought the win to a possibility. Karan bowled the Skip with a legitimate corker and the Dickster fresh from his solo skin like net, bowled the last recognised batsmen with a corker, which sparked a football styled celebration from the Dickster.

With 6 overs remaining both Chris's bowling and both struck with 2 wickets in 2 balls sparking near delirium in the outfield. One over to go and Char took the ball requiring 1 wicket to win the game. The left hander kept out the first 3 deliveries, 4th ball a massive shout for LBW, Grant Elliott turns down the appeal, dot ball....... then final ball of the game the ball crashes into the pad, a massive appeal and after 10 seconds up goes the finger!
