Aldenham Cricket Club v Old Habs on Sat 15 Aug 2015 at 1400
Aldenham Cricket Club Won by 98 runs
Match report
Following two days of rain, Aldenham turned up to their game with Old Habs to be presented with a damp, sticky wicket. Stand in skipper Simon won the toss and was convinced by his opposite number to have a bat.
Out went Lee and an out of from Karan, who admitted he had visited the temple earlier in the morning to pray for some runs. It seems Karan’s gods have forsaken him, he was on his way back to the pavilion having taken more lead off the scorer’s pencil with his name than with his runs.
Karan’s fall brought out Basil. Playing against his old school on a difficult track, Basil showed no mercy to the female opening bowler, leathering her repeatedly into the field for numerous maximums in a jug avoiding 29 ball 49.
Watfa took to the wicket and proceeded watchfully before Lee managed to launch one in the air, before looking around wondering why the ball didn’t hit the floor after it got to the fielder, the whole concept of a catch was obviously bemusing to him.
This brought debutant Pete Hensman, who hit a couple of lovely shots and was looking comfortable. Comfortable until Watfa who was struggling to find rhythm on the damp track and eager to get off strike, called through a quick single on a misfield. Much ball watching followed from both Watfa and Hensman before both found themselves at the non-strikers end. Pete, realising that milk turns quicker than Watfa’s knees, made a valiant attempt to get to safety but was well short in the end.
The face fielder Sanghvi came in to bat next and almost immediately deflected one off his gloves into his own chin.
Watfa eventually dollied one up to point and Aldenham found themselves 129-5 and needing to up the rate as tea drew in closer. Jemile came in as Miss Haria was brought back into the attack. What can only be described as a procession of Aldenham batsman then proceeded to start and finish their innings. First Jemile, then Joe, Dan and finally Simon fell in a devastating spell of bowling which included a hat trick.
Sen joined Sachin at the crease an between them they managed to scrapeAldenham up to a competitive 168.
A Bala tea was then enjoyed before Old Habs began their reply. Sen and Dan opening the bowling and began to tear into the Old Habs top order, who were rapidly finding out that batting on that track wasn’t as funny as one of their player’s thought. Sen made a breakthrough thanks to a fine catch at short cover by Karan, whilst Danny whipped out 4 wickets in quick succession.
Sachin, meanwhile was making his way to A&E as he had decided to forgo the advice of the coach not to field the ball face first and promptly wore one right in the kisser. Cue blood and a bit of shock and Saacho was left to drive himself to hospital as aforementioned coach did a runner to ensure he couldn’t add ‘Ambulance Driver’ to his C.V.
On came Karan for a couple of overs and he soon got a wicket before Chairman Skipper Simon turned to back-of-a-length Barry as the opposition’s chuckler came out to bat. Sure enough, Baz hit that back of the length and the ball reared up and struck the Chuckler. Karan’s interesting response from short cover was; ‘You’ll have to learn how to bat better than that!’, conveniently forgetting that he’d only managed one run earlier in the day.
Next ball and Barry knocked Chuckle’s off peg out of the ground before Dan came back on to complete his 5fa and a fantastic Aldenham win by 98 runs!
