Alexandra Park v Aldenham Cricket Club on Sat 25 Jul 2015 at 1400
Aldenham Cricket Club Won By 10 wickets

Match report N22 7AX is the post code and it will take you straight to Alexandra Park CC?? Well at 1.30pm only myself , Dan and Nic had arrived and the rest of the parishioners were lost in the vicinity of Alexandra Palace. By start time we were one short, no guesses as who was changing in the Car Park and missed the first 5 overs!

I now have to back track to 1.30pm when on arrival at Alex Park CC I am met by the club manager Dorothy who is first concerned at our wonderful new cars and advises we are in changing room 4. Dorothy also confirmed that we were playing on the artificial track. Not to worry though as the 1's & 2's had used it in the nets last week and the bounce was good. Rather baffled by her comments I decided to get changed before inspecting the wicket.

When I reached the square with the skip I couldn't believe my eyes. I must say after playing at The Parish for 27 years I have seen most things but never this. Rolled out on the centre circle of the junior cricket pitch was the all weather mat. It hugged all the contours of the uneven football surface and the only reason it didn't move was because the stumps were driven into it. In the old days Messrs Brittas, Talbot, Munroe, Lyall would have refused to play on such a surface, but these days Parishonners have to accept what Saturday Cricket they can find.

Despite the oppo looking rather a rabble the skip won the toss and decided to bowl. ( Get them out and let's get out of here!! ). Thankfully after 8 overs the game was effectively over both Dan's opened up and had Alex Park 7 for 5. Good spells from both Chewy and James (I want an extra over) Bazeley went unrewarded , so the skip turned to Tan and himself to spin the tail out. That was achieved by the 22 over. Tan getting a wicket with his Douzra and Nic finishing with 3 wickets.

Alexandra Park CC 56 all out - Wickets Dan M 3, Nic 3, Dan K 1 & Tan 1 ( + 2 run outs )

The reply saw Dan Wells and Barry open up from the start. Both struck the ball well and had to run plenty of 2's as the football pitch outfield was hardly Lords. After 7 overs The Brigadeer run to the boundary to advise that the Oppo were gagging for a beer match! Not a hope in hell!! By the 8th over Dan had scampered the winning run, meaning that despite an excellent run out Darpan was unable to try out his repaired blade. The parish had though escaped victorious and unscathed, also totally unwilling to play the requested beer match.

Aldenham CC 57 for 0 - Dan Wells 15 * , Barry 35 *

Tea was taken at the end of the game, it was not a classic but only charged £35!

So today was not a classic but did raise a few questions?

All weather surfaces - this now include mats that are manufactured by Lego in the form of the old Hemel Ski Slope.
Never trust a postcode!

Would entering a league on a Saturday be that bad?..........Probably not!
