Match report
Aldenham CC vs Aylesbury Rivets CC
Saturday 11th July 2015
Timed Game
The A's welcomed regular opponents Aylesbury Rivets to the Parish on Saturday. There were however some irregular players within ACC's ranks. Paul '8 pints' Cross and Jemile Al-...the guy from Codicote drafted in late due to Frosties equally irregular bowel movements.
ACC as is customary were to field first, Amit and Dan Knight to open up. Amit was once again quick, but the openers seemed to deal well with the pace on the ball and began to find the gaps, and creating some of their own. Dan bowled some good lines, but at times struggled with the odd full bunger, and the opener Babar got his three bags full, depositing some lusty blows. Dan persisted however, and knocked back the other openers off stump.
Chewett, drafted in as wicketkeeper today, seemed to be having some back trouble, which was of course greeted with the utmost sympathy from his team mates as bye upon bye fizzed in between the open legs of the cricketers son. Luckily Jemile turned up and took on the gloves, and Chewett then asked for a bowl! No chance.
Runs continued to flow. Dan had the plumbest of plumb lbw shouts turned down, and this seemed to awake the dragon that had been so dormant over the years from young Knight, an expletive filled tantrum forthcoming. You could obviously do with a holiday Dan, enjoy Cyprus!
Wardy replaced Dan at the bottom end, and second ball Dan Knight made amends with a stormer of a catch at mid-on, cheers Dan! However Mr Babar then proceeded to take Wardy to the proverbial cleaners, he too taken off after a short and expensive spell.
Dan Morgan replaced Amit after a fast but unrewarding spell, and skipper for the day Chris Munroe had a tweak at the bottom end. Both exerted some much needed control. Danny got his just rewards courtesy of some safe pouching from Robin 'Ill have another burger' Russell, however runs continued to flow, there seemed to be no way to stem the tide of boundaries. ACC continued to take wickets, Danny picking up 3fa and Chris picked up one after an excellent spell.
Dougie Trail came on to replace Dan, and Wardy got another go at the bottom end. Dougie bowled some decent outswingers as well as the odd long hop, but managed to nibble out a couple of wickets, and Wardy picked up another with the lower order going for glory.
Rivets declared with around 15 minutes left until tea.
Rivets 250-9 off 38 overs, Dan M 3-53
Wardy finally managed to do a tea after several rained off attempts, and the chase was on.
Simon and Robin opened up, Robin looking uncharacteristically expansive (well as far as your reporter could see from the sink...). 42 on the board before Robin was out caught for 21. Chewett came to wicket still nursing his back, but managed a couple of nice shots. Simon and Chew departed after getting starts, and this brought together Chris and Jemile.
A 113 run partnership then materialised, some excellent running, shot selection and timing from both bringing the A's up towards the mammoth target. Chris latched on to some short deliveries and deposited consecutive sixes in to the trees, and brought up an excellent fifty. Chris was caught on 68, Dougie joined Jemile but departed for 4. Jemile and new man Dan Knight then departed in quick succession, and then Amit fell going for a 6, and now ACC were toiling at 193-8.
Wardy joined Dan M at the crease with only Paul 'would you like to bat at 6 Paul? No' Cross left in the hatch. around 60 needed with 10-11 overs left. Danny proceeded to unleash on anything in his half of the pitch, aswell as playing sensibly when the ball wasn't there to hit. Wardy supported by picking up the odd single. Extras were also plentiful, and before long there 3 overs to go, and ACC needed 12 to win. Calls of 'plenty of time Dan' from Wardy were waved off from Dan, as he then deposited the next 3 balls for 4, 6, 4. ACC were home, an excellent 46* from Dan.
ACC 253-8, Chris 68, Jemile 47, Dan M 46*
