Aldenham Cricket Club v Monken Hadley on Sun 03 Aug 2014 at 1400
Aldenham Cricket Club Won by 75 runs

Match report Regular visitors Monken Hadley turned up as Aldenham's opposition and soon lost the toss and were stuck in to field.

Lee Burrows and Robin 'Boycott' Russell opened proceedings and whilst Lee set about setting a score, Robin seemed intent on setting everyone present to sleep. His strike rate of 3.13 meant he could have batted until tour and barely be into double figures. Sure enough the pressure of the increasingly impatient crowd soon drew Robin into a false shot and he was bowled through the gate. Karan top scored with 53 as Aldenham set a target of 221 for Monken Hadley to chase down.

Char opened with Father-to-be Sen, though neither of their opening spells could muster a wicket. The A's turned to Tim who made a breakthrough but soon tired and lost his radar in spectacular fashion. Ward, Knight and Letts similarly chipped away with a wicket a piece before Bala and Munroe returned, both bagging a brace in their second spells.

The overs wound down however and the Monken Hadley last wicket pair seemed to be heading out the draw. Last over and the Skipper looks around his eager troops, desperately searching for the wicket that will win Aldenham the game and send him off on his travels a happy man. Some may call him foolish, Aldenham needed to hit the stumps and Tim in his last over had stuggled to hit the right village, let alone the right track, but none the less the skipper gave him the nod.

Gasps of disbelief from the crowd as Tim came running in. First ball was seen harmlessly by well outside off stump by the Hadley number 9, the second ball was given the same treatment under a watchful eye. Muttering of discontent from an Aldenham fan base who had been watching all day began to get louder as the ball made its way back to Tim and he started his run up. As Tim leapt into his delivery stride, the batsman steadied himself. Tim released and instantly the batsman knew something was not right. This ball was coming straight and full. In his utter confusion faced by this miracle event, the batsman fluffed his lines. A gap appeared between bat and pad as this thunderbolt from the Pony seized it's chance and fired its way through, smashing into the off pole a cuing scenes of celebrations not seen since Colin Hewett staged a pitch invasion as the last ball sailed for six against Windermere off the bat of Slaque Haque.

Aldenham win by 75 runs with 3 balls left of the game.
