Aldenham Cricket Club v Chesham on Sun 29 Jun 2014 at 1400
Aldenham Cricket Club Won by 68 runs

Match report Aldenham stunned fans with their second last gasp victory of the weekend.
After the previous 2 unbelievable games for the village outfit, no one could have expected a third on the trot when the parishioners arrived at the home of cricket this Sunday to face Chesham C.C.

With the experienced ACC opening line up of the Chairman and the Colonel getting the hosts off to an steady start (8 from 5 overs) against a youthful Buckinghamshire bowling line up. The pair upped the ante and raced along to 52-0 from 12, with Letts crashing 4’s into the square leg boundry and Bazeley playing predominantly in “the V”. It was the colonel who gave the first chance to the visitors, dropped at mid-on, having identified the suspect man Bazeley(33) repeated the shot shortly after and was gone to a solid piece of fielding. 60-1

In came Munroe C snr, still pondering which part of his tea he had left in Bricket wood. Putting together a good stand with letts, largly made up of Munroe boundaries and a safe single towards the end of each over. Letts fell after a vicious delivery crashed into his off stump with Letts(36) offering little in the way of defence.

Enter Tanios“the Gladiator”Watfa stepping in against Doctors orders after Met cop tactician R.Russel was called to the scene of 2 cats simultaneously being stuck up a tree in central London 1 Hour before the start, this obviously took a while to deal with as Russel didn’t make an appearance all day.

With a fraction of a knee left on either leg Watfa and Munroe resorted to boundaries and the occasional hobbled single with every call of yes from Munroe met with distain followed by agony and then anger from the Arabian Slugger. Munroe reached his ½century and then was clapped a run later with scorer James Bazely awoke after Munroe crashed a ball down long-ons throat who spilled.

Watfa, keen to keep up pushed for a 2 then tried a pirouette which left him on his back side in the middle of the track, after crawling back to his ground on his belly, decided enough was enough and left the field and the contest without so much as a word.(35) When the emergency wheel barrow had reached the pavilion play continued.

The conclusion of the innings came after several lusty blows from Munroe completing his demolition of the Chesham attack, who field 7 sides a-week, with a magnificent century(105*) and various sporting efforts from Frostie who blasted snicked and scrambled his was to an interesting 18* putting the home side in a powerful position of 205-2(+1retired hurt) ½hour before the scheduled break.

After the early feast the parishioners bounced onto the field under no disillusion that failure to take ten wickets was not an option.
A solid stand from Chesham’s opening pair dashed ACC hopes as both bats faced off the front line ACC bowlers and nullified the time advantage Munroe and co hard worked so hard to earn.

It took a good catch from Munroe C snr at gully off the bowling of up and coming salad lover D.Knight to break the deadlock. Shortly after, a Stunning run out from over-shadowed brother and skipper C.Munroe jnr kept Aldenham in the hunt.

Searching for inspiration and mental strength skipper Munroe C jnr chopped and changed the bowling line up keeping the batsmen on their toes as was Jimbo Bazeley with some aggressive pace bowling.

Keeping the pressure on, S.letts swooped to take a low catch at mid-off, to give the skipper his first scalp. And fellow opener M.Bazeley backed that up with a catch of the season contender at first slip as the ball flew off the top edge over the keeper P.munroe from a D.Morgan bouncer.

The Dickster using all of his decades of experience and range of “other balls” picked up a bowled along the way leaving Chesham 6 down with 10 overs to go.
With hope fading and captain Munroe C jnr running out of options he turns to older brother, mentor and role model to “make something happen Gay-Lad” with cries of “it’s your day” and “earn man of the match in his ears” the under used ripper and dipper duly obliged setting up left handed opener Hughes(49) with his favoured sweep and a good catch from “I better not break these glasses” Frostie atoning for the 2 fours though his long barrier and a dropped catch earlier in proceedings.

Dicky D took the home side to the brink of victory with 2 more wickets from the bottom end, 2 more fantastic catches from Munroe C snr in the deep making it 3 catches and 3 jugs owed at the bar with the lower order unable to resist the tricky seasoned campaigner and playing into the hands of the host.

1 wicket to take and Chesham firmly shutting up shop with dreams of a mammoth run chase finally dead 2 overs remain. “Chuck it to the chef skip” Munroe comes back with dreams of performance of the season within his grasp and the remaining 9 men surrounding the young tail enders. A sharp take low down from the Skipper and a scream from the brothers Munroe leaves the umpire in 2 minds... alas eventually the appeal dies and the ump remains unmoved, he turns to the bowler “if more than 2 went up then maybe.” Peter(I won’t appeal a bump ball)Munroe wasn’t interested.

Last over, Dicky to bowl. After a bit of chat from the gang of fielders in his face, the 14 year old drives dicky through the covers and frosty collects the ball, an easy 2 and both batsmen in their ground frosty cunningly launches the ball through the Dickster and the batsmen take an overthrow. With the less solid man facing and 3 balls remaing, dicky smells blood and unleashes a venomous top spinner which catches the shoulder of the bat and loops up to Munroe C snr celebrations erupt. Scenes of jubilation and relief, hugs and handshakes another spectacular Aldenham win. 4 wickets for Doughty 4 catches from Munroe C snr.
