Aldenham Cricket Club 1st XI v Tring on Sun 01 Jun 2014 at 1400
Match was Tied
Match report
The first meteorological day of Summer saw bright sunshine and warm temperatures invite the Allstar's to a game of cricket against Tring.
Skipper Char won the toss and elected to bat despite the protestations from the usual suspects who consider Aldenham to be at their best whilst hunting down a total.
Openers Simon Letts and Robin 'Jam Sandwich' Russell made a solid start, however both fell and sparked a terrible collapse from the A's as the score went from 53-2 to 80-8 as a selection of rash shots, inflated egos and typical indecision saw Aldenham in danger of making less than a game of it. A particular highlight was Chris Hewett who will probably turn up to play his shot tomorrow with his 'unique' method of timekeeping.
Luckily Skipper Char played a superb captains knock to drag the A's kicking and screaming to a competitive 182, ably supported by Dan Morgan and Tim Hale.
Never the less, the Allstars went out to bat unsure as to whether 183 would prove to big an ask for the strengthened Tring side despite an unusually excellent tea from Robin Russell. Indeed it proved as the opening three bowlers of Char, Tim and Chewett troubled the batsmen but no so much the scorebook with wicketless spells.
Mikey Ward eventually broke the deadlock after finding the spot the roller had missed, claiming a clean bowled wicket for his efforts before giving himself a blow. All the while, Tring were making fairly light work of their run chase, reaching drinks with no further loss.
However, after the drinks break Aldenham managed to slow the run rate down for a few overs which brought the game back to them. A flurry of wickets fell courtesy of some good bowling by Karan Barot and it seemed Aldenham could pull off an unlikely win, however the Tring lads managed to keep hold of their wickets and progress the runs total to the point where they needed 8 runs off the final over to be bowled. Char managed to squeeze in a dot ball and not concede any boundaries to restrict Tring into matching the Aldenham score of 182, resulting in a tie.
