Aldenham Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets

Match report It was a brisk, beautiful day with occasional showers passing through
on a gentle breeze as the the Aldenham heroes took to the field of
combat for a game against Windermere. Chewie won the toss and chose to
bowl first...

Despite the dampness in the wicket it was flat and true and made for
batting. Windermere set off slowly and lost a couple of wickets - the
first a flying edge that Bazeley (the old git) took flying to his left
at first slip off Chris Hewett. A bit of bat speed action started to
put Windermere in a strong position before Bazeley junior (Josh), on as
first change coming down the hill[] (really!!!), drew an edge and
Bazeley senior took another sharp chance in the slips. Then began a
session of truly impressive and destructive batting by the Windermere
middle order. A third wicket fell but I can't remember how! But as
time went on the two Windermere batsmen smashed, dashed, demolished and
destroyed their way to centuries. 7 balls were lost - despite Tanios
Watfa's impressive, if ultimately useless and futile efforts thrashing
around in the long grass and thistles!!!. As the Windermere innings
drew to a close they concluded 229 for 4. The bowling figures don't
merit recording in detail but it is noteworthy that neither Chewie nor
Danny can actually count as high as the runs they conceded!!

Following a delicious tea, we then went into bat with our hopes as high
(not very!) as they could be, after being hit for 229 runs. The Colonel
and Lee Burrows opened up for The A's. Lee was caught on 5. I (James B)
then went in to bat at number 3 with plenty of pressure given our
position. I played a sublime game changing innings that set the
conditions for what was to follow. I was unlucky to be bowled by a ball
that didn't bounce (that's my excuse anyway!!), and ended my innings on
16. At number 4 was Mr Barot, who simply picked up the run rate
dramatically getting his 50 just before my dad. At this point it was
turning out to be an interesting game. My dad then got caught at "cow
corner" ending on a decent 53. And in came Chris Munroe, who again
raised the pace by hitting a few 6's. The 3rd last over Karan Barot
reaches his ton but then gets bowled looking into the low lying sun and
swinging away to chase the still improbable win. And then in came the
man of the moment, Itty Haque. Chris and Itty had to get 33 in the final
2 overs and then 22 off the last. Chris Munroe hit the first ball of
the last over for 4 and the second for a single bringing Itty to face.
The Windermere bowler (Captain) then proceeded to feed Itty's straight
drive and was despatched (despite the low setting sun being in his eyes)
back over his head for 3 consecutive 6's handing an incredible win to
the Parish. The scenes of celebration were summed up by the pitch
invasion as the win was secured with 1 ball to spare!! Great game,
perfectly constructed chase and extraordinary finish.
