Aldenham Cricket Club v Arkley on Sat 17 May 2014 at 1400
Aldenham Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets
Match report
Aldenham record a convincing home win whilst opening batsmen risks his marriage in run-out
The sun was shining as Arkley won the toss and selected to bat. Due to the lack of bowlers present in the side everyone looked to the Saturday Captain Chris Hewett to provide us with some of his magic bowling, these expectations didn’t last long as he felt the burn of running up the hill after just 5 overs!!!! Good job for Charlie Munroe that we weren’t playing a twenty-twenty as most of his balls strayed to the leg side. His disguised slower ball had the opposing batsmen on the floor after he feared for his life as he thought that the rapid Charlie Munroe had produced a beamer, the ball proved out to be a great Yorker but the square leg umpire thought otherwise and called it a no ball. After this normal service resumed with all of his balls going down the led side. Legend Nick Raey returned with some truly amazing fielding, sadly his batting didn’t go the same way. Danny Morgan and Birthday boy Dan Knight were 1st change with some tidy bowling. The shin pads which seemed to be a great purchase proved a problem for Danny with him removing them after his first over saying “I felt like Nick Hale running into bowl”. Danny Morgan finished with 0-26. Dan Knight showed a superb amount of fitness after surviving 8 overs of pure sensational bowling picking up 2-24. Next we saw Nic Hale and a surprised spell from Sachin Sanghvi with his off spin which proved to be a tough act to follow for Jerry Knight. Nic Hale showed why people should attend winter nets after picking up 2 wickets for 29. Jerry Knights spell didn’t last long after he was taken off rather correctly after just one over by Chewett, Jerry Knight said the reason for his lack of troubling bowling was due to the fact that he bowled too much at nets mid-week, I think he may re consider that retirement of his. Guest player Gary left Nic Hale with his head in his hands after dropping an absolute sitter at Square Leg. The opening bowlers finished off the innings with tidy bowling with Chewett ending with figures of 8 overs 1-16 and Charlie Munroe ended with 11 overs 3-17. Arkley took advantage of the weakened bowling attack scoring 140-8.
For Jerry Knight his work doesn’t end on a Friday, he looks to pick up customers when he can. Providing Gary with a boring conversation which ended with Gary saying he needed a photocopier. After a superb tea from Chewett, we saw a father-son in law opening partnership which didn’t last long with Sachin running out Gary for a duck. Tanios took he opportunity once again scoring 65 not out, which many said would go down in the fodder column. Watfa showed he has a good cricket mind but not a good shopping mind after putting his new £280 cricket on eBay with no reserve price. Sachin went to attack the Arkley attack after noticing he was late for his party which he had for at leave at 6 o’clock, we finally saw him stumped on 30 with him apologizing to Gary as soon as he reached the pavilion for his ridiculous running decision, claiming “I just wanted to get you off the mark”. This put the ex-opening batsmen Nick Raey to the crease. The long time since he went out to bat showed after we saw him bowled out for a duck, 8 pounds please. The ever destructive Itty Haque didn’t last long either with his innings going- 0 6 out. Whilst all this was going on Watfa was costing the club many balls after smashing them to the short boundary with some amazing cricket shots. Nic Hale batted at number 6 and got 6 after a terrible decision by Jerry Knight who gave him out LBW, maybe the fact that Nic Hales bowling spell lasted longer than Knights played its part in the thought process. Dan Knight showed why he should stay as a bowler after getting a dull 2 from 11, which did include a tremendous cover drive. Danny Morgan supported Tanios scoring 24 not out with the pair finishing off which was a great overall performance form the Outcasts. The after match drinks, included the arrival of Charlie new girl Megan arriving. Chris Hewett also showed his ,mind set with finding a girl after not caring about the photo on Tinder, he just presses the heart button in hope of getting a connection.
