Aldenham Cricket Club v Rivets on Sat 03 Aug 2013 at 1400
Match was Drawn

Match report Signs of the changing of the guard were noted during a rain affected game at the Parish.

Stand in skipper Colin, resuming his previous role as Saturday Captain, duly won the toss and decided to bat, electing to open himself alongside Nic Hale. A maiden was faced before the weather took a turn for the worse and in what turned out to be a case of de ja vu all afternoon, the players left the pitch.

The light rain which stopped proceedings soon became a deluge and by the time it stopped an hour later the wicket was looking particularly sodden and a further delay of 30 minutes was required to allow the pitch to dry enough for play to resume.

The left arm bowling of the opposing skipper soon began to frustrate the opening batsmen as his line and length proved unplayable with the wicket in the sodden state. Nic eventually let his anguish get the better of him an was out caught which brought Karan to the crease. This again brought another bought of rain to the already damp pitch, a spell which nearly brought the end of the game but lasted only 15 minutes. The players managed to resume before again having to halt proceedings, much to the chagrin of now umpiring Hale Snr whom found the rain match stopping whilst batting but only a mere inconvenience whilst officiating.

Karan soon made to 50 before offering an edge to the keeper attempting a paddle scoop. Skipper Colin had made a helpful 23 n the meantime with Itty contributing 30 and Watfa a 29* before Colin declared with the A's on 182 and leaving 2 hours left of play to remove the ten Rivet wickets required for the win.

Aldenham took to the soggy field buoyed by a superb and cost efficient Knight tea, Sen Bala and Tim Hale taking the first stints of bowling, Tim Hales first ball was a hat trick delivery having taken 2 wickets with his last two balls the previous week. Unfortunately he contrived to miss the track with it as both openers looked lively but didn't manage to take any wickets.

This caused Skipper Hewett to turn to youngster James Bazeley who promptly opened the Aldenham account with a slower ball Yorker which eluded the Rivets number 2 and took his middle stump. Colin then chipped in with a wicket, bowling the other opener one short of his 50 before turning to the services of the other young member of the side, Dan Knight.

Between them, Dan and James tore into the Rivets line up, grabbing 7 wickets between them with great spells. James finishing with figures of 10-0-53-4 and Dan Knight with 4-2-17-3 which although wasn't quite enough to claim the match, certainly showed the future of Aldenham Cricket Club certainly looked brighter than the weather on the day.
