Match report An early start obviously meant there were a few late comers mainly down to the night befores antics but finally the game got underway and after yet another toss losing performance, the hosts batted first in a 7 over per bowler 35 over game. It was a welcome back to Sen 'I play when I want' Bala hit some decent areas bowling against a batsmen that previously scored 180 against us earlier on this season who punished any bad ball that was bowled at him. A quick change in the bowling saw the introduction of Danny Morgan who couldn't find his rhythm but thankfully he had the umpire to take his anger out on the umpire (I will let him relay the physical and verbal abuse). The pace was taken off the ball when Richard Doughty was introduced and quickly dithered through the coopers top order picking up the most dangerous batsmen thanks to a controversial catch from Tanios Watfa. With the hosts in trouble 4 wickets down in around 20 overs, the ball was tossed to Jerry Knight. In his own unique way, changed the game but unusually it was in ACC's favour picking up 3....yes 3 whole wickets and was very unlucky not to pick up a fourth thanks to a Lee Burrows drop. I will also let him tell everybody about his 3 overs. A few lusty blows from the Coopers lower order meant they reached 175-8 against a poorly tempered ACC which was resolved in the bar after.
Openers Letts and Burrows took about the response much quicker than normal with Letts smashing the ball through all parts.....of the leg side, Burrows however wasn't quite as effective being caught for 0. A unslaqued Haque played well and out on 63 with Simon but unfortunately his shot generator landed on the 'slog' mode and missed a straight ball. Watfa and skipper Munroe followed quickly and it was up to Danny 'I will push who I want' Morgan and the chairmen to kick on. Some boundaries quickly followed but another slice from the chairmen this time was caught and had to go after making a well deserved half century. In came the very experienced Colin Hewettt looking to rotate the strike and could only rotate himself back to the pavilion having been bowled round his legs. An even more experienced Pete Munroe delaying his journey to Hornchurch for another Scam 69 night at The Crown looked to be waiting for the bad ball working it round the pitch only to find a near run out being approximately a quarter way down the wicket but that's what he does to get Danny Morgan on strike. In his own wisdom wanted to win the game within an over but mistimed a 'heave', out for a well needed 31. In came Jerry Knight, were the cricket gods smiling on him today...NOOOOOO out for 0 off 4 balls. Sen Bala was inserted at 10 needing 17 off 24 balls. Singles and the odd 2 helped the A's to an 8 off the last over with Richard Doughty itching for a little cameo. Single off the first ball, 7 off 5 Pete Munroe facing. A play and a miss 7 off 4, a single gives Sen the strike but it looks like Pete has pulled his other hamstring. Whispers were wanting a runner but the warrior continued. Another single (probably should have been 2) leaves 4 off 2 and the spectators becoming very nervous not knowing which way this game will go. ANOTHER single gives Sen Bala the strike off the last ball needing 3. A defensive stroke was played and the noise increased, 'KEEP RUNNING' but a confused Sen Bala and a knackered and injured Pete Munroe meant Pete was run out going for the second so ACC lost by 2 runs but a great game and lots of banter in the bar after. Roll on next weekend!
