Match report Aldenham were asked to bowl first in sweltering heat and struggled through the opening 45 minutes against a competent opening pair who were aided by some sloppy ACC catching. It took the ever wily Richard Doughty to break the opening stand but, despite this success, by the second drinks break the opposition looked set for a big score on 120-1. Straight after drinks Richard took a second wicket as Mayuren Bala clung onto a sharp chance at extra cover. From then ACC continued to chip away and eventually bowled Chesham out for a respectable but below par 206 – Richard claiming the final wicket for his 5-for, 2 apiece for Charlie Munroe and Mayuren and 1 for the reliably erratic Basil Letts.

The Aldenham innings was given a solid foundation by Robin Russell who took the sting out of the Chesham attack with a 31 ball 1. At the other end the chairman was dismissive of the short pitched bowling being served up and raced to 36 before being run out going for a comfortable second. Tanios Watfa, batting at 3, rediscovered his early season form with a blistering 42 before patting back a tame caught and bowled opportunity. I’d never actually met Frostie before the game on Sunday but had been informed that he was basically terrible at cricket – his 4 balls innings consisted of 4 wild slashes and zero contact and did little to convince me otherwise (he did, however, take a good catch at backward point during the Chesham innings). Frostie’s dismissal heralded the arrival of the classy duo of Chris Munroe and Karen Barot batting at 5 and 6 who both chipped in with useful 30s before falling with 50 to get off the last 7 overs. Some disappointing bowling meant that Charlie Munroe and Basil Letts were able to ease ACC over the line with an over to spare.
