Aldenham Cricket Club Aldenham Cricket Club v Waxlow on Sat 06 Jul 2013 at 1400
Aldenham Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets

Match report A stifling day met a particularly cranky bunch of Parishioner's for what turned out to be a fiery encounter with the returning Waxlow.

Skipper Charlie Munroe, who had somehow managed not to disgrace himself since the last weekend, opened as per usual and soon took the first wicket. However this was the last joy the A's were to see for a while as a second wicket partnership of 120 began to fray the already hot and bothered tempers of the Saturday contingent. Salim cashed in on the batting friendly deck with a heavily struck 95 before being out caught off the bowling of Dan Knight, who managed to squeeze in a quick 3fa before tea as Waxlow posted 266-7.

After enjoying the relative cool of the Pavilion and a tea courtesy of the Ward's, Aldenham set about chasing down the quite large total with Lee the Pirate and Itty opening the batting. Itty struck a well constructed 44 before finally succumbing to the voices in his head and finding himself out in his favourite manner. Sachin managed to chip in with a useful 28 before Karan came to the crease.

Karan's arrival caused murmurings of discontent with the opposition as he did not field for most of their innings as he deputised for the Chairman who had important dinner reservations. It had been agreed that Karan would bat low down the order and apparently 5 was not low enough. Numerous unsuccessful appeals later and Waxlow were now positively seething as Aldenham edged nearer the total. Karan went on to score 83 before being out caught with 30 runs left to win. Chris Munroe, playing a first double of the season however and worked his way into the 30's by then and was eyeing up his first 50 for the season. The Opposition were now under no illusions that they may go on to lose the game and every ball rapping into the pads was greeted by loud, screaming, expletive-ridden appeals which when replied with a call of "Not Out" became even louder and even more expletive ridden. The pressure finally caught up with Umpire Sanghvi as he crumbled to an LBW appeal and gave his skipper out despite Charlie practically middling the ball into his pads in the penultimate over.

This brought Danny Morgan to the crease and the last over. Aldenham need 9 to win. Danny looked up from his guard and decided that to only place he couldn't see any fielders was the area 40ft above his head and promptly placed the ball there for three straight deliveries, being dropped once and managing to score a single on each occasion. The last ball of the game arrives, 2 needed for the win and Chris Munroe facing. The crowd and players grow quiet as the bowler is running in. The bowler releases it. Chris's eyes light up as he mistakes it for a Mars Bar before swinging heftily for it in anger when he realises it is actually an inedible leather ball. He connects and connects well, sending it screeching to the fence for a four and bringing his 50 and a famous Aldenham victory.
