Match report Contrived toss, NCCC bat first

F****** bunch of t****. That was your reporter and weary selectors thoughts at 9pm on Tuesday, with only 4 Aldenham players available for our oldest fixture. Obviously alot of you had very good excuses, it was just one of those weeks.

Thanks to Vintage for drafting in Laura and Alistair from Edge Grove, to Andy from Costco and to New Calypsonians for giving us 4 very good players. We had a 11 a side and the game was good to go.

NCCC batted first and Kyle Walcott, returning to play for Aldenham, opened from the top end. Kyle started erratically, his first ball a beamer, and a succession of boundaries and extras followed, the first over taking 15 minutes to complete. Ebay, fresh from opening spell at Hatfield the previous day, got the nod again today. He however could not find length nor line, and was punished to the boundary in a gruelling 4 over spell.

Kyle picked up Graham Farley with a questionable lbw, and Ebay picked up the number 3 skying one to Andy with the gloves. Bumpy and Bird replaced Kyle and Ebay, and both took some tap. Bumpy picked up the other opener Atherley, but then James and Smith produced some lusty blows, James going on to get 62, before being dismissed by Bumpy.

Wardy and Nic came on in the latter stages of the innings, and Nic took a steepler of a catch off Wardy on the boundary. After this it was the Vince Farley show, as he blasted his way to a quick fire 45*, many a ball lost over the car park. Wardy picked up another wicket, and NCCC decided to declare after about 27 overs of their allotted 35 on 245-7.

A Wardy tea was consumed, and the Edge Graldenhamsonians set about their target.

Alistair and Andy opened up, and were faced with a fired up Vince bowling quick. Andy was unlucky to be run out early, going for an ill-advised second run. Alistair looked solid before being caught by an excellent slip catch for 12. Ebay and Kyle then built a partnership of around 50, Kyle languidly stroking the ball around and Ebay hustling for singles. Ebay fell for 14, and Earl came to the wicket. The crowd were not expectant and let Earl know of this, to put it kindly. Kyle passed 50 but was adjudged lbw on 61. This brought debutant Laura Kenny to the wicket, and she looked solid whilst at the other end Earl offered up a skier back to the bowler.

The task was looking tougher by the over, but supported by Laura holding up one end, Itty began to find the boundary at a pace, slapping the change bowlers over the fence. He however fell bowled to Atherley, and so did Bumpy next ball, the task looking unlikely now at 151-7 with around 12 overs to go.

Wardy came out to join Laura, and uncharacteristically set about the bowling with gay abandon, hitting 2 boundaries off the first over faced. Laura, having been stoically defending, now started to pick up 1s, 2s and the odd boundary, and they built a quick fire 50 partnership. Laura was unfortunately run out going for quick runs, and Nic fell bowled soon after.
Wardy confined to plough over mid wicket, and joined by Bird who started with a 4, the task looked possible. However on the last ball of the penultimate over, Wardy went for one swipe too many, and was bowled for 33.

Acc bowled out for 216, Nccc win by 29 runs.
