Match report Rickmansworth IIIs vs. Aldenham

Saturday May 13th saw Aldenham travel to Rickmansworth 3rd eleven. Conditions were overcast with a greenish pitch as Rickmansworth batted first. There was good early pressure through tight bowling from both Charlie Munroe and Tim Hale with the latter taking a sharp return catch to make the initial breakthrough. Munroe then followed up with two more wickets as the batsmen struggled for any fluency. Mike Ward then continued to keep the pressure on and was unlucky to pick up just the one wicket.

Meanwhile at the other end Amit Chakrawarti picked up a wicket and two maidens from his six overs, followed by captain Nic Hale dismissing one of the two set batsmen with tidy work from Itty behind the stumps. Danny Morgan then followed on from Mike picking up a wicket which was followed closely by another in the much anticipated ‘silent over’ only to be ruled out by a silent no-ball, cue silent frustration from the bowler. This sparked some life back into the innings with Nic Hale taking two in two, with the contrast of the ‘noisy over’ having the desired effect. Morgan then finished the innings with a simple catch lofted to cover, leaving Aldenham needing 126 for victory.

With the sun now out the reply got off to a slow start before a flurry of wickets left the visitors teetering at 22-5. Munroe then got things back on track first with Joe Hensman and after he departed Tim Hale but when Munroe was removed with the score 68-7 victory looked unlucky. Danny Morgan joined Tim at the crease and the pair steadily rebuilt the innings until Tim was trapped leg before. That left 30 still required and Danny then seized the initiative with some lusty blows to the boundary before falling for 31, leaving Mike and Nic at the crease with Mike the final man out just six short of victory.
