Aldenham Cricket Club v Abbots Langley IV on Sat 14 May 2016 at 1300
Aldenham Cricket Club Won by 160 runs

Match report The first league away game in the club's history was staged at the home of Cricket, following much pre season negotiation and the lack of desire of a treacherous trek to Cassiobury Park. The skipper's went to the middle and for the second week running the A's had the first use of a well prepared track. Nic's batting line up ensured solidity however entertainment was never going to be on offer. Simon succumbed fifth ball of the first over to a straight half tracker that he attempted to play a cross court forehand to. Simon on his return to the pavilion announced that he wasn't happy with the situation but the prospect of 39 overs of scoring soon cheered him up.

To the wicket came came in form Goweresque Dan Wells to join the Rustler. Both struggled with the two young Abbots Colts and adopted a funerial scoring pace for the next 75 minutes that had all that could stay awake clambering for any spare lengths of loose flex. Drinks arrived at 20 overs and the E's in the Squash had the desired effect as the innings finally came alive. Robin's vigil came to an end with the score on 79 and he was run out by Dan "I did it for the parish" Wells for 28.

That bought Tanios to the wicket. Tan swatted his way to 29, with 7 fours and a single before he announced that he required refreshments as he was close to passing out?? I was always led to believe that at 28 years of age the Human Male is at the peak of his fitness! The two Parishonners at the wicket didn't really show this??? However both Dan and Tan bloudgened the bowling to all parts of the fields, with the farmer screaming in return that he had sprayed the field with highly toxic pesticides!!

With Tan on 78 he survived a non appeal LBW but decided to run a leg bye to the Watford U15 goalkeeper now wicket keeper who threw down the stumps with Wellsy short of his crease, run out for a well paced 91. Tanios reached his 100 thanks to a refusal by the Abbots fielder when on 96. Tan finally fell for 110, quickly followed by Frostie for 2, Tim plum LBW also for 2 and a bemused number 7 bat for 10. Four wickets to the debutant Abbots bowler with blue pumps and a desire to bowl in his England Cap due to a skin condition. I have a feeling that his 4fers maybe limited to the generosity of the Parishonners.

Aldenham 271 for 6

A fantastic tea provided by the Abbots skipper's wife was enjoyed by all. The Abbots skipper Ken then mentioned of his previous encounters with Aldenham as an opening bat at Oakdale CC and remembered Nic as a quick opening bowler ...... we don't?? We also reminisced of the bee swarm attack on The Bear at Oakdale and the never to be forgotten bowling spell from "Cossack" with car keys and loose change in his pocket!!

Refreshed the A's took to the field in a strong position. Tim and Dan K opened the bowling , both bowled well with little help from the pitch but without a breakthrough. After 10 overs Tim was replaced by Danny M and immediate success as the 4 wicket hero was removed for 24 by a sharp catch from Jerry behind the stumps. Next ball Danny removed ex Dorset County player Andy Cox for 0.

Nic replaced Dan K from the top end and despite a lack of turn for once managed to remove the skipper for 22 thanks to a twice dropped by Frostie "I wouldn't put my Mortgage on him catching that" Glover. Game was over then as the last 20 overs were used as crease occupation by the young Abbots Colts. The chatty Joe played some nice shots for his 26 and Jack followed the Rustlers lead in the first innings of no shots offered but a terrific rear guard defence.

The introduction of the ACC's bemused number 7 bat with his rip and dip broke the resistance with 4 wickets of his own and that could of been another jug had Robin managed to hold on to a very tough chance at gully. The innings ended with a first over of the season from Frostie, very unlucky not to get a wicket and the over was completed in just 9 deliveries!! A second league win of the season and a game played in the correct spirit by both teams.
