Timed Game

The much awaited first game of the season had arrived, and despite the previous evenings downpour the pitch was reasonably dry, and appeared flat (well done all those involved in the pitch preparations).

Unfortunately the opposition turned up with only 9 men, some of which began the day rather surly and would finish the game rather more so, more to follow.

Nic won the toss (I believe) and ACC were to bat against the 9 men from somewhere near Ealing. Dan 'no nets required' Wells and Charlie 'if I'm not bowling I should be opening' Munroe opened the innings. A mixture of experienced dobblers and youthfully exhuberant pace opened up for Brentham. Wellsy started well, playing fluently through the leg side on anything that strayed, whilst Char looked a touch scratchy at the other end. One too many close lbw calls came, and Char was back in the hutch for 6.

Barot came in at 3, and in his quest to get off the mark quickly called through Wellsy for a quick one to mid-off, and the opener was a couple of feet short. Frostie came in at 4, blasted a boundary, but then top edged one to third man. The A's wobbling at 30-3.

Watfa and Kuzza then steadied the ship, and soon began to open up in typical style, Karan particularly punished on anything short. The back up bowling was not as strong or accurate as the opening pair.

After a partnership of 74 the quick but erratic bowler from the top end got a straight one of middle to keep low, and Watfa was cleaned up off the inside edge for a well made 34. Kuzza brought up a well deserved season-opening 50, before going for a lofted drive and being snaffled by extra cover.

Minty and Dan Knight then began a feast on some buffet bowling, Dan Knight nudging the singles initially whilst Minty unleashed with his newly acquired bat. He slapped his way to 75* (batted 'Eoin') and Dan cultivated a good looking 33* before Nic declared around 45 minutes early.

Aldenham 253-5, Chris Munroe 75*, Karan Barot 58

The A's feasted on a Chewett tea, and then the quest for the 8 wickets required to win was on.

Chewett opened from the bottom end, and Amit from the top. Char in his new capacity as club keeper stood the customary 2 yards down the leg side for Chewetts first ball, which Chew duely obliged with a perfect inswinger down the leg side. The medium pacer began to get his line right and looked dangerously for the nick off. Amit was customarily quick, and a short ball opened proceedings, the batsman getting a top edged skier which Kuzza caught in the covers. Amit then picked up the other opener nicked behind, safely taken by Char.

The Brentham No.3 P Diddy, friend of Watfa, looked the best batsman in the side, a stylish left hander. The no.4 was the complete opposite to this, and in true 'courier' fashion played the same tennis shot to every ball, no matter the variation in length or line. Amit was unlucky to pick up the no.4 courtesy of a huge Sikander from Nic at third man!

Dan Knight replaced Amit at the top end, and Wardy replaced Chewett. Dan was erratic but dangerous, and a full bunger seemed to disorientate both batsman, as a fumble by Char encouraged the non-striker to call through his batting partner, and Char duely obliged by smashing the stumps with a pin point throw. The classy left hander was gone, and surely any chance of a result for Brentham.

Dan picked up two more wickets bowling straight, and Wardy picked up the no.4, courtesy of a good caught behind again from Char. He can have the gloves permanently!

Nic then came on and cleaned up the no.9, who then proceeded to lose his rag at Karan who had been 'goading' him throughout his innings. Storm in a teacup stuff. The game was done.

Brentham 68 all out, Dan Knight 4-1-12-3, Amit Chakrawarti 6-0-10-2
